I said 6-6 although I didn’t do a game by game analysis.

I think most overestimated the competition rather than underestimate our ability.
Look back at how well move up teams do their first year in fbs.

It’s all about who the coach is. RR is a gem.

I think most overestimated the competition rather than underestimate our ability. Look back at how well move up teams do their first year in fbs. That was me. I just thought teams like utep and La Tech would be ahead of us. Same. Here's what I expected out of CUSA this season, along with whether I was correct or wrong in my analysis: Liberty: I expected the Flames to be strong in 2023. I believed I even had them as conference champs, if they could get by WKU. CORRECT, though I didn't foresee the NY6 berth.WKU: I expected them to be the big dogs among the incumbent CUSA teams, and though the Toppers stumbled a bit, they largely were. CORRECT. I had this one pegged as a loss for us, though. NMSU: Appeared to have turned the corner in 2022. This season, though the UMass game early on was UGLY, the Aggies would go on to demonstrate that the corner was long behind them... at least until they got to their bowl game. CORRECT.MTSU: Always ran hot and cold under Stockstill. I figured if we made it to 7-5, they could be one of the wins we stole. But I figured they'd be a bowl team and would keep the win for themselves. WRONG. They were not very good in 2023. UTEP: At one point soon after 2022, I called these guys one of the worst teams in the country. Then they hit the Portal HARD and brought in some strong players, especially on the line. These guys will be a bowl team in 2023! WRONG. Umm, just... no. La Tech: Usually a strong team, and though they were rough in 2022, I assumed they wouldn't stay down long. Another team I had pegged for a bowl in 2023. WRONG. You saw what we did to them... Sammy: They were only bad in 2022 because they redshirted everyone or something. In 2023, they'll prove to everyone how tough they REALLY are. MOSTLY WRONG. They turned it up a bit there at the end, but mostly lived down to everyone else's expectations. FIU: Showed some brief flashes in 2022 that they were approaching the same corner as NMSU, though they clearly hadn't turned it yet. The Portal was hard on them, though, and I figured we'd win this one easily. CORRECT. FIU was turrible. Just turrible. So taking the above projections into account, here's what I thought we were looking at with the Gamecocks: Nonconference losses against the Lessers and Coastal, plus losses against Liberty, WKU, and maybe NMSU or MTSU. That's 5 or 6 losses right there. If UTEP or La Tech gets it rolling, we're up to 6-7 losses. Sammy will be a tough out, so potentially 7-8 losses. We SHOULD beat EMU, but they ARE a bowl team, so there's a chance they could bring us to 8-9 losses. I'll set the floor at a 3-9 record. I think we'll beat some of those lower teams, though, so I'll be realistic and say we finish 5-7. But if we can establish ourselves as a "middle of the pack" team in our first FBS season, we could steal a couple more wins. I think we could finish as high as 7-5. I know that's a lot, but I'm trying to be realistic here. It's not like I'm saying we'll finish with 9 wins and a bowl championship. That'd just be silly.

I voted 7-5 and we start 3-0. I think we squeeze one or two wins by less Than 10 points that we looked great in the games and the other teams stumbles. I really don't seeing us getting beat by more than 28-31 points in any game with most or losses being by 10-14 points. I think our defense will surprise us, and as expected, the offense will be more explosive than ground and pound. Offense will start the first two-3 games really well then hit a plataue until mid-October. Special teams will be above average. I think I scored an A-.I missed a little on the offense and the start of the season.

Great repost...
Proudly or blindly optimistic... I had 8-4. Happy to be wrong on the right side of the scoreboard.

Great repost... Proudly or blindly optimistic... I had 8-4. Happy to be wrong on the right side of the scoreboard. I too had 8-4 but didn't even consider a bowl game. I simply knew G5 teams are way overrated and new comers do unusually well in their fbs conferences. Sam Houston surprised me.
