I would say top third of our conference, throw out the highest budget and the lowest budgets. Liberty”s funding.not only for athletics, is an anomaly in CUSA. If I’m not mistaken we’re approaching a $20 million budget. It would be nice to increase that by 5 million per year until we reach the top third of our conference. For comparison, I recently read that Alabama’s athletic budget is over 200 million.

We need to just about double our budget to be competitive in CUSA. As part of that increase, we need about 2mil per year more in donations to be competitive. The average athletic donations per year in CUSA is about 3mil and we get about 1.4. We are not at a $20 mil budget yet and we need to be closer to $40mil. Still think we have plenty of money and should wait until the wins come to donate? If we do that, we will never be winning championships at this level. I am a huge fan of Rich Rod, and I think he is a great coach but he may not be able to work miracles. Here is an article that lays out a sad projection for us and SHSU. I am not as negative as they are, but we need to wake up. www.linkedin.com/pulse/cost-prestige-iv-reviewing-new-2023-conference-usa-jax-hirko-ph-d-/
