At this time moment in time, JSU is positioned for great things to happen. I have made a contribution. I see your forum name Alpha, well played...

@petethamel
Source: UTEP is hiring Kelvin Sigler as the CO-DC and safeties coach. He was the defensive backs coach at Jacksonville State.

I am choosing to take this as a sign that Zac will be staying. I hate seeing that it's a CUSA school doing the poaching, but at least it's not a lateral move. Sigler's stepping up from DB coach to co-DC -- that's a major promotion. Sigler's been around... who knows? He might be back again someday. I wish him the best, except for one notable game each season.

So far, it looks like we don't have to worry about Rich Rod leaving before next season.
If he has an even better season next year... like 10 wins or so, I think he's gone though. There's this gut feeling I have that he wants to go out on top; finish at a P5 school. Most of these former great P5 coaches don't end their career at a G5 school, unless they've been hired to build a program from scratch (i.e. Howard Schnellenberger, Bill Curry, Larry Coker, Don Strock).
I'll be surprised if he retires at JSU. He can say he likes being here all he wants, but every single G5 coach that has left his job has said the same thing.

I'll be surprised if he retires at JSU. He can say he likes being here all he wants, but every single G5 coach that has left his job has said the same thing. I agree he should be around through 2024. As for whether he'll be gone for sure if he has another great year (especially 10+ wins)... I'm not quite as pessimistic. You're absolutely right that he wants to go out on top. But that can mean different things. Among them: 1) Finishing at the highest FBS level, in a high-end FBS conference. This could mean moving to someplace like Mississippi State/Vandy in the SEC, or Indiana/Purdue in the Big Ten. Of course, that means his last few years as a coach would be spent working his butt off just to try to get to .500 and bowl eligibility. And the odds of him going out a conference champion would be slim to none. He's simply not a candidate for the Bamas, UGAs, Ohio States, and (been there done that) Michigans of the world. Of course, there are a few teams already hovering around .500 who could snatch him up (Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, TAMU) but the pressure to win at those places is off-the-charts insane. Would he want to go through that kind of pressure cooker again in his last few years? I mean, he could easily lead Auburn to 10 wins, but if their two losses were Bama and UGA, everyone would hate him and his seat would be uncomfortably warm. Who wants that kind of pressure, if they already have crazy money sitting in the bank? 2) Finishing on top as a conference and bowl champion. He's halfway there with the Gamecocks already. He just needs to add "conference champ" to his resume. (I'm speaking purely of official championships at the FBS level, so 2022 doesn't count.) It's a relatively low pressure gig -- obviously, we want to win, and there's pressure to do so -- but after the 2023 season, unless the wheels completely come off the program, he's got several years of "honeymoon" remaining before the JSU administration and Gamecock boosters start pushing for his ouster. Another 2nd or 3rd place finish? No problem. Win the conference, though, and he cements his legacy at Jax State, especially if he beats Liberty (and all their resources) to do it. And man... can you imagine if he inserts Jax State into the CFP? Speaking of which... 3) Pulling off the impossible. Sure, he could take a gig at a Power school and lead them to a bowl win or two. Big freakin' whoop. Nobody would care. But the buzz surrounding what he pulled off at Jax State this season is palpable. Not just leading us to 8 wins and a bowl berth, but winning the bowl game ... in New Orleans ... against Louisiana, who doesn't freakin' lose bowl games in New Orleans. He hears it. He hears people beginning to say out loud what they'd stopped saying completely after his time at Michigan, and what they only quietly whispered during his time at Arizona: "Rich Rod is one of the greatest coaches in college football history." So how does one cement THAT legacy? Easy. Just lead a team from a small town in the Appalachian foothills of northeast Alabama into the CFP. Doing so would absolutely match (or exceed) what he pulled off at West Virginia back in the olden times. He doesn't have to WIN it. (Though that would be awesome.) He just has to GET US THERE. And getting us there is nowhere near as ridiculous an idea as it may have seemed when he took the Gamecock HC job. This is a realistic, tangible goal for an ultra-competitive coach in his last remaining active years. There is no other job in American where he could pull this off to greater effect. Jacksonville State represents the perfect storm. I'm not naive, of course. We could get the announcement this evening that he's taken an OC job with a PAC-2 team. "Rita and I have always loved the Pacific Northwest," he says in his introductory presser. "And Raquel has been ready to move for years now. This way we get to keep her around a few years longer." (Everyone laughs.) Until that happens, though, I'm going with Door No. 3.

Lots of rumblings that Coach Alley may be Oklahoma’s top candidate for their DC opening.

I will hate for us to lose him. With his close relationship with Venables, this makes sense. Venables is probably the guy that would take a chance on him and give him the DC job without making him a position coach first. I predict that we will have good options available to us though.

Well deserved for Coach Alley.
I will follow his career with interest.
