I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks about how we did!
I think we added some really good players, and I'm excited to see how our regular day Signing Day turns out!

Dont keep uo with the players enough to know. CRR has an offense different than many HS teams which makes it hard to guess the transistion. Our defense appears to be if your fast you will find your way on the field.

I gave it a solid B. Would've been an A-plus, had we not let JMU steal a QB.
(As I said before in a different thread, I'm not in panic mode over that... I'm just saying, it would've been a stronger class with him in it.)
It was definitely one of the stronger signing classes we've ever had, at least on paper, before any of these guys have taken a snap. Talk to me in 3-4 years, and I'll let you know what I REALLY think about it.

Pleased with our HS signees. But I thought we’d do better. I no longer believe that’s the path to getting the best players. Why recruit HS? Just hit the portal looking for FCS and D2 all-stars.

I would argue that coaching matters more than the portal. Colorado, Campbell and UMass had notoriously good years in the portal, but none of them turned out to be world beaters. We'll be just fine signing high schoolers and developing them.

I LOVE the fact that we signed a HS player for each position group. It’s almost like each assistant coach was told, “You get to bring in one player, so make it count.” A-

I give us a B with the expectation that it could grow into an A with the February class. Last December, my concern was we needed more size. Our February class was loaded with giants. This year, I'd still like us to get more size, but on the defensive line this time. Our guys punch above their weight, but we need some heavier players and depth.
I'm also hoping we'll sign a power back. Our short-yardage plays depend on misdirection to create openings for our smaller backs. But I want us to have one our two bruisers who punish defenders in rushing lanes.

He scored our first TD against LALa.

Quarterback: I went to James Madison signing day website and I could not find the QB. Did he go somewhere else?

133rd overall. It’s a start but lot of work to be done. We need to get on the portal. I have full faith in our program to finished inside the top 100

133rd overall. It’s a start but lot of work to be done. We need to get on the portal. I have full faith in our program to finished inside the top 100 On3's rankings are better than most, since they actually bother to factor in multiple recruiting services. But you still have to take them with a grain of salt. Some problems: 1) You're rewarded for the number of players you take, without consideration to the strategy being employed by each school. So if we go after 11 specific players and land 10 of those, we're graded below a school who throws scholarship offers at anyone with a pulse and signs 15. 2) Unrated players are treated as nobodies. This doesn't matter when you're comparing Bama to UGA to Ohio State. Their LOW-END players are high-end three star players who EVERYONE has rated. At Jax State's level, we want those 3-star guys just as much as anyone else. But we also need to dig deep and do our own leg work. Xavier Bausley (who was apparently actively poached by a P5 this off-season) was rated ZERO stars coming out of high school. Someone on JSU's staff did the research the recruiting services didn't do, and signed a kid who no one else had rated, and he turned in a Freshman All-American season in his RS Freshman season. That kind of leg work -- which is the mark of a great staff -- gets no credit whatsoever by these NSD class rankings. 3) At the end of the day, you can recruit all the stars in the world, but if you don't have the head coach and position coaches to develop those players, you wind up with diddly. Exhibit A: Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher. Exhibit B: JSU's 2022 recruiting class was ranked below LA-La and UTEP, and one slot ahead of JMU. At our level, these rankings mean nothing.

I have full faith in our program to finished inside the top 100 Take a look at the 2023 signing class grades and you'll see Sammy, FIU and LaTech at the top. Take a look at the conference standings and those three teams are at the bottom. Those rankings don't matter, at least not to the extent that we need to jump headfirst into the portal. Coaching, developing and system matter. In those areas, we're top three in the conference.

Ask me again in three years. That’s the best time to rate the class.

I get the portal effect, but to compare HS recruits to a roster of transfers is not the same.

I !like HS signings. Even though we have had success, we are still building a program.
1. If the portal rules change. You have talent. 2. If you have great talent on the field they will not be with you after their junior year. Look at Saban/UA, how many sophomores that are on the field usually play a senior year. Most go to the draft after their Junior year. I don't expect Clay Webb to play a senior year, if he is an All American again. (I ama not sure how many years he has left with covid year)
