So the topic of this thread was our 2nd team All-American Defensive Lineman entering the Portal. You would expect the comments to be frustration/anger/disappointment. Then we get the GREAT news that he has withdrawn his name from the Portal and will remain at JSU. So naturally you would think there would be jubilation among the Administrators/Moderators of “The Home of the Big Fans of Jax State”. Well, you would be wrong. You will never see me be angry at a player or disappointed in a player for transferring. I want him to do what's best for him. If that's somewhere else, they should absolutely go and do it. I'm not going to hope someone stays for my own benefit as a fan. That's known as "being selfish". Regardless, while I'm glad to have players like Coleman on the team, it's hard to get excited knowing we have a coach that will waste his and our other players talent on a refusal to look in the mirror and fix what's plaguing our program. It's honestly kind of saddening at this point. But it's not at all to do with players who may or may not be transferring, it's with Grass. Full stop. I believe you'll find a similar sentiment among the other posters you may be speaking about. There's also no requirement on this board to pump artificial sunshine. All the rules on the board can be summed up to "be respectful to others". This opinion is just that, my opinion. You can have yours. I will have mine. And that's ok.

And that's ok. ^^^^this I am working on getting things finished up in Taiwan and selling all our stuff and getting documentation together for a visa and move to Vietnam while teaching 28 private students and taking 9 grad level credit hours online... And I took the AZ rona vaccine this week. I don't have the energy to emotionally react to a college kid transferring to improve his draft stock. I'm glad he decided to stay. Dunno what else I am supposed to say.

Personally, Im glad he now has the ability to make his decision as to where he wants to play. I want JSU to WIN in the playoffs and it appears you are more worried about some individual retaining a position. Yes Im not happy with the end result of the season for the TEAM.

I understand fears of diaster with stars like Trae berry and DJ Coleman entering the portal. But that's just what it is fear. Luckily for us Coleman is remaining and best of luck to Berry I hope he is successful beyond reason but for us it's an opportunity for another to step up and take his place. To remain the same is to be stagnant and change is what makes college football great. I look forward each year to seeing who will be the next standout. The next record breaker.

Y’all are gonna have a hard time adjusting if you panic whenever a standout player transfers. With the new rules this is football and is happening everywhere likely JSU is poaching players just as upper schools are poaching ours. Every year our top players will look to move upward to higher paying and higher profile schools. It will happen everywhere

He’s making the best decision for himself. Good luck and many blessings sent his way! Next up…

I wonder if there will be a mass exodus by guys who don't have the disciple to learn a new system.

I wonder if there will be a mass exodus by guys who don't have the disciple to learn a new system. There will be, but we fans need to be careful about ascribing that as a reason for every transfer. Players are now able to leave for the same reasons regular students do, which when you're dealing with 18-22 year olds, means anything from "This move benefits my long-term professional goals" to "This is hard, and I want something easier" all the way down to "I dunno... just felt like it." Besides, as Cleburneslim pointed out, the Portal is affecting everyone, not just JSU, and we're poaching as many as we have poached. I'm naturally disappointed to see the good ones go, but ultimately, all I can do is wish them well, then turn to the Gamecocks and say, "Alright... Next man up."

Plus I feel that HCRR and staff are savvy enough to have anticipated this with the state of the portal these days. It's all good, just win baby!

Yeah I know serveral guys whose transfer wasn't a "oh I'm too good for this system" hooplah and they left because it was genuinely the best thing for their goals. Casey Dunn and Trey Barry are both examples of this. To me, we shouldn't be blaming athletes for looking for better situations. We should be considering what we can do to be better for our athletes. The biggest thing that annoys me in college atheltics nowadays is the notion that once an athlete commits they are "obligated" to stay and that transferring in the off-season is somehow a breach of this "obligation". Scholarships are a yearly thing. If an athlete completes the season they've fufuilled whatever "obligation" they have and can go where ever they feel is best. If that's with us, great. If it's not, what can we do as a program to make it better?

I really don't care who leaves. I think the team will be better full of guys who actually want to be there. There are definitely some talented guys who deserve to go play in a P5 conference and I'm sure there are other guys who probably need to go play for Alabama Northwestern State Tech.

According to 24/7 Sports it shows that DJ entered the Transfer Portal March 9, 2022 - then the next entry is that he signed with JSU on March 9, 2022.
I have seen this before for other athletes who entered the Transfer Portal and then changed their mind. Perhaps he decided to stay. I hope so.
