youtu.be/WRRwj__X5Os?t=5085Gumbart interviewed on Wake Up Call with Dan Tortora. Most of the interview centers around the ASUN's rebranded logo, and how student athletes were involved in the design, and how the ASUN's student management committee has a voice in the direction of the conference as a whole. The topic of discussion finally moves to expansion here: youtu.be/WRRwj__X5Os?t=6605Bottom Line: No names, but here's the plan: Adding one more football school plus one additional school (with or without football) to bring total conference membership to 14 so the divisions remain even. The goal is still to become the "best FCS conference in the country" with the 6-team minimum for AQ eligibility. Then focus on bettering the conference with football expansion up to 8. If they get to 8, then they'll explore splitting off the football schools into their own conference. But that's looking way down the road. No mention was made of FBS, but it looks like that would be the next logical move, after getting to 8 teams and breaking off from the non-football ASUN.

Reiteration of the same no news. If not a socon school I don't know who #6 is except NCA&T. McNeese has made statement intimating moving including suggestions of possible fbs. However they have the same funding issues all Louisiana schools do that are not named LSU.

Yeah, it was a whole lot of nothing new.
It wasn't a total waste of my time, though since Gumbart clarified a few key points about the ASUN's priorities for expansion. Most notably, how many total teams they're hoping for, and whether non-football teams are being considered after the 6th football team is secured.
And, for me at least, learning the old UAC idea is not totally off the table was worth hearing, even if it's low priority, years-down-the-line wishful thinking.

I think the UAC is related to going fbs.

I think the UAC is related to going fbs. If we get to eight football members, the split needs to happen. If you are in a one bid league, it is much better with eight members than 16. It may never go FBS, but it’s better than some mega league with a power struggle between football and non-football. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The UAC would be football only? Or a whole new conference. I was under the impression our Olympic sports would remain in the Asun.

The UAC would be football only? Or a whole new conference. I was under the impression our Olympic sports would remain in the Asun. The original, crazy overly ambitious plan Gumbart released in early 2020 was for the UAC to be its own conference, totally separate from the ASUN, potentially with FBS football. It was always going to be a gradual process, but that's what they were working toward. That's why I felt like his mentioning it in this interview was substantial. It means the plan's not dead.

I think fbs plans are the real deal. Tarleton ad made specific mention of Fbs aspirations also. Big changes are likely coming to football in the relatively near future. Renegotiated college playoff media deal will create change one way or the other. Hints at a p5 split a possible expansion to 12 team playoffs. Things will change. Will the big 12 survive as a p5 conference when Texas finally leaves for more money?
