What does that have to do with the school of education?
Did you notice the wing in a circle logo, And #youjustknow I hope this isn't something new from the new marketing company.

The wing in a circle logo has been an official university logo now for several years. Close to a decade. (Non-athletic. Thank God.) The #youjustknow campaign is at least 2 years old now. Maybe 3. Oh, and the FCS department (known as Home Ec back in the old days) is part of the School of Education. And cooking/cooking education is part of FCS.

Home Ec was always the class I hated the most. Although the only home ec class I did was in high school. I didn't know it was even a thing in college.
Not because it was essentially a cooking class. I love cooking and I'd say I'm pretty good at it.
But it's always just struck me as a monumental waste of time.
Like schools will teach cooking and cleaning ,which honestly you can Google how to cook and all you need to know about cleaning is don't drink bleach or mix it with ammonia. The rest is self explanatory.
Why we force young people to take that class and not one that explains personal finance will always elude my understanding.
(Disclaimer for any home ec majors out there I may have just triggered, I admit this post is completely based off my own personal experience with home ec, which isn't much)

I think it goes by another name now. I took it once in high school and thought it would be easy. I quickly changed my mind.
Furthermore i suspect with the group of young people today and parent with less common knowledge it may well be quite necessary to teach young people minimal skills that people used to learn at home.

Well let them google it. People not know how to microwave ramen isn't going to crash the economy. People buying things they can't afford can. Then everyone will be eating microwave ramen.

Why the problem with people taking a class like this?

In some schools systems (definitely, and unfortunately, not all) "Family and Consumer Sciences" also includes a section on Personal Finance.
I took "Home Ec" in middle school, only because it was the only thing I could fit in my schedule after a course change. (I was pissed, at first, but then quickly realized there were advantages to being one of the only boys in the class.)
We learned all about ... um ... I mean, we once spent a whole week on ... errr ...
I think we made Corn Flake treats one time? With peanut butter or something...?
It was an incredibly useful class. Changed my life.
True story.

I'm going to turn this into a food thread now. Because food is fun. Behold. My beef. Tortellini Basil Pesto Alfredo with Seared Garlic Butter Scallops. One of my favorites. I know one of you guys has some Brisket pics to share.

I like my beef. And yes. It's medium rare. That pic isn't the same beef as the earlier beef. It's the beef I made today. I got a new sous vide circulator and was giving it a go. Makes for a very tender steak. Just gotta get a nice sear like so.
