- Construction is expected to be completed by October 2023.
- Will include a 1,000-seat concert hall, two large multipurpose rooms, a recording studio, and an indoor practice space for the Southerners.
- The space will be specifically designed for concerts and musical events, festivals, and competitions. That is, they plan to use it for recruitment by bringing loads of high school kids on campus on a regular basis.
- The facility will allow six new music degree concentrations: piano performance, vocal performance, instrumental performance, jazz performance, music industry (performance), and music industry (business).

Bout damn time! The music program has deserved a facility like this for the past 30 50 years, and this will be a great addition to the school and the music program. The fact the university has drawn the caliber of music students without a performance hall like this, not to mention the prior Mason facilities, is amazing. Just think the level of talent we will now be able to recruit.
Love the name "The ROC".
I believe I saw the location is still up for debate, but as rendered where the Alumni House used to be would be great as a highly visible building at the front of the university.
Looking forward to hearing some concerts here in the near future.

I don't know if what I heard pre-dates what you heard (it's been quiet for a few months, and I'm not exactly located convenient to the campus gossip grapevine) but I think the location in the rendering is all but official now. This location offers two gigantic benefits: 1) It's located on the main highway. This makes it convenient for visiting performers and audiences, and puts another marquee building in full view of passersby. 2) Convenience to the library parking lot means parking won't be an issue, even for packed crowds and lots of buses.

It's not where the alumni house is. It's next to the library. The alumni house was across the street.
I never heard it being located anywhere but next to the library.

Yeah, across Roebuck-Waters from the old Alumni House location, next to (or swallowing) College Apartments. I would guess College Apartments is getting demo'd. It doesn't house many students and we are getting more dorms in the stadium. Honestly with the announcement that the RMC building is getting a renovation it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the old nursing building gets replaced for a new dorm a few years from now. I haven't been in Jacksonville for a while, but last I knew, that building was just sitting vacant and the university just left it. Demo it and put in more dorms if we need them. Maybe even another area with more restaurants like the TMB.

Yeah I see now, not the Alumni house area but right next to the library. Front and center of the university, great location.

Question - is there a new Alumni House? If so, where is it?

I dig the rendering of the ROC. That front elevation reminds me of the architecture of the "former" Bibb Graves Hall. Yes I said Bibb Graves, apologies if anyone was triggered.

Question - is there a new Alumni House? If so, where is it? Not sure what plans there are (if any) to rebuild a new "Alumni House" ... but right now, the Alumni office is in the "SBI Complex" ... formerly known as Kitty Stone Elementary. (For those unaware, Jacksonville schools closed that building several years ago and sold it to the university when they opened a new school building across from the high school, south of the Square, back behind Walmart.)

For some reason I thought they saved some of the materials from the old Alumni House when they tore it down? Like the original hardwood flooring, etc?

didn't kitty stone actually belong to JSU before the city of Jacksonville?

didn't kitty stone actually belong to JSU before the city of Jacksonville? Yes. In fact, I'm not sure, but JSU may have owned it all along. Could be the city was just leasing the property from JSU and ended that lease (rather than "selling" the building back).
