Georgia State doesn’t deliver the Atlanta market any more than UAB delivers Birmingham. And Georgia State would be crazy to leave the Sun Belt for C-USA.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I would agree but CUSA is considered a step up. If you pass then another SBC school will accept and you miss a step forward. Leaving the regional schools behind and joining those with more academic dollars will always be accepted by the Presidents.

I know you are joking about the SEC but this could have ripple effects that impact us. The Big XII would have to start grabbing people to stay alive. They likely poach the AAC. The AAC then poaches the Sun Belt and CUSA. The Sun Belt and CUSA reach down into the FCS. One of them grabs Kennesaw because they deliver the Atlanta market. One gets desperate and takes EKU. This kills Gumball’s football league so we get stuck in the Big South and go to New Jersey and Bob Morris every other year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Call me Nostradamus. Only it is EKU getting screwed instead of us. Better them than us, but I hate it for them and Peay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I still believe it's only a matter of time before EKU gets the call to join us. As for Peay... "They're in a better place." p.s. I remember a few years ago gemofthehills suggested JSU would go to CUSA instead of the Belt. I thought that was such a naive and silly thing to say. No way were we going to CUSA.... Well, Gem, touché.

Have to admit it isnt the CUSA I was expecting. Thought UAB would leave and we would be the new Alabama team.

At that time I figure they would replace uab with ga st. Of the greater market. If they ever do move ga st. the sbc will likely collect KSU to replace them.

In further expansion news, it appears UALR is headed to our old stomping grounds of the OVC.
They are getting nudged out of the Sun Belt so this is as good a place as any. Doesn’t help OVC football but it is a warm body for Olympics. Gets them up to 6/9 members, pending further moves.

It is now being reported that Murray is finally getting their long-awaited invitation to the MVC.
No word about football. The MVFC is a completely separate conference and currently has eleven members.
If football does leave, it puts the OVC at five football and eight for all sports.

The Big South is losing two members In Monmouth and Hampton. That gets them down to five football members, the same number as the OVC and ASUN will have in 2023.
So glad we got out of that mess when we did.

Yes, but if CUSA had taken EKU instead of us we’d have been in that mess.

At the time, CUSA was focused on markets. Now they were taking whoever they could get out of desperation.

Wasnt too hard of a guess. UAB had a real chance to move while troy state didnt.
SBC is a final destination teams go there when the ability to move has left. USM couldnt compete in CUSA and was looking for the MAC of the south. ODU and Marshall are chasing App who is the king of their region.
CUSA had more options than most would guess and still has plenty. Would you rather be in a league with Sam or TX St? Middle or ODU? WKU or ULM? Most people are not going to travel to Mobile or Statesboro if we were in the SBC. troy state and GSU would be the two travel games. Few would go to South and GaSo but very few. Middle and WKU will be our two easiest travel games so its Nashville (might as well say twice) vs ATL and troy. The other games are fly games or pre planned trips. UTEP, NMSU ($98)and FIU ($42) are easy flights from ATL or BHM. UTEP area is quite nice and Miami is Miami. Either league would offer fans two games with 300 miles or less travel.
Im not sold SBC will be a better athletic conference either. Basketball is a given to CUSA. Football, SBC has a lot of teams with losing records and their best team ULL has lost their coach. App is the next best and WKU won their game rather easily. CUSA at this time will have Liberty and WKU leading the conference. To compete others will have to get to their level or be left behind. These two will be at a higher level than anyone in SBC. SBCs top teams in the future (IMO) will be App and Coastal, just dont see either stay with Liberty and maybe staying/getting to WKUs level. Baseball would go to SBC at this time but La Tech is becoming a great program and again will make everyone else rise up (not like the Falcons" rise up).
Personally, Im quite happy with the universities JSU will be associated with in CUSA vs SBC.
