Funding... JSU endowment is $13.6 million. We don't have any big boosters that can buy the coach out (even though his contract is just $300k per year... 2021 is last year of his contract). Both AU and UA have about $800 million in endowments. Nurses and Teachers don't make a lot of money. Our endowment is actually around $36 million, which is still low compared to other similar institutions - the average is around $100 million. The basic reason JSU has a low endowment is there was never any organized effort to raise funds until recent years. Thankfully that is changing. It is a false assumption that because JSU does not have a large number of “high dollar” majors we somehow do not have alumni who have done well financially. We do!!! And now that they are being contacted, they are giving. Here is just one example from one group of alumni. What is commonly referred to as “The Marching Southerners Alumni” gave a total of $30,000 toward a new performance center over a 20+ year period. A year ago the same group gave over three times that amount for seat naming opportunities in the recital hall. This year they have given over $400,000 during the first phase of asking toward the new indoor facility for the band.
