The toughest opener I can remember. WICHITA STATE !! Don't know if you heard Coach with The Voice on Saturday but he's really upbeat. Not backing down. We're picked 3rd in ASUN by coaches..... 5th by the media. Looks like we'll know early what kind of team we'll have. Wichita State & Bahama Tournament against a tough lineup. VERY VERY tough out of conference schedule. We should grow up in a hurry. One thing we do know, a Ray Harper coached team will improve as the year progresses.
Wonder if ASUN Tournament winner gets automatic bid & league champion gets NIT bid like the OVC? I see where Tourney sites are on campus. Does that mean we have a chance to host depending how we finish? That would be neat.

Wonder if ASUN Tournament winner gets automatic bid & league champion gets NIT bid like the OVC? I see where Tourney sites are on campus. Does that mean we have a chance to host depending how we finish? That would be neat. For all the self-hype the OVC gave itself about being a "basketball conference," the ASUN is far stronger. In the last pre-COVID, full-strength season, 2019, Liberty (NET rating 63) won the conference tournament and went on to beat Mississippi State in the 1st round before losing in the 2nd round to No. 16 Virginia Tech, 67-58. Runner-up Lipscomb (NET rating 47) went onto the NIT, where all they did was make it to the Championship Game, losing to Texas, 81-66. In 2020, both the NIT and NCAA tourneys were cancelled due to the Rona. In 2021, Liberty lost in the 1st round of the NCAAs to 4-seed Oklahoma State, 69-60. The NIT had a reduced field and only took 16 teams, leaving no room for smaller conferences. Whereas the OVC's quality dropped off substantially about 6-7 teams in, the ASUN this year will have dangerous teams 10 deep. The only truly weak teams will be UCA and KSU. And teams in the middle tier, like FGCU, have really improved since last season. (Their recruiting class was phenomenal.) It's going to be a tough ride, but an awful lot of fun. I'd give anything to be in Hardcorps again.

The good news is Liberty's big man transferred out to LSU. We will know in a hurry about our team. Wichita State is a good team. Have the returning Co-MVP of their league returning. It'll be a test. It on ESPN+. Don't guess we need a Roll Call for this one.
