I said it in another thread on the football board, but Grass 100% has earned his place as one of the greatest coaches in JSU history.
Yes, I wanted him gone after this season. I stand by that. But that doesn't mean I don't recognize what he's done for JSU.
Sure, he amassed all those wins and OVC championships in a weak-as-heck OVC conference, but Crowe was in the OVC for 8 or 9 years, and didn't win half as many championships, and never won a playoff game. If nothing else, Grass lifted the expectations of Gamecock fans from wanting winning seasons and "making the playoffs" to "GET BACK TO FRISCO AND WIN IT THIS TIME."
It's a shame we couldn't do that, but that's also part of the reason why his time was done. Not that we didn't win the NC or even make it back to the big game, but that we'd stopped improving. The mistakes that held us back in Frisco in 2016 were the same ones that held us back against Delaware in spring 2021. Grass had an awfully high ceiling, but he hit in early on.
It's time to take the next step now.
Thank you, Coach Grass. Whoever's up next has a great foundation on which to build. Let's do this.

Retirement hasn't been mentioned once in this whole thing and he says he'll coach again. Did he get hired by an FBS?

In the press conference and with Mike Parris he says he's going to continue coaching. It almost sounds like he's taken another job. Maybe I'm reading into it. But this wasn't a "I'm leaving to enjoy my retirement" type speech.

I got the feeling he was told his contract wasn’t going to be renewed and he decided to spend some time with his family after basically coaching a year without an off season. I don’t think he has another job lined up yet, but doubt he’ll have trouble finding one somewhere.

Nope. Max Thurman will be the interim coach for the last two games.

Watch him get another shot at the FCS, go on a run, and just donkey stomp everyone. Seems like it would be our luck.
