Speaking for myself, I'm trying to just make mine all proven head coaches, not assistants. David Blackwell done fine at La Tech and Jody Wright at Bama. I've mentioned Wright on another thread. My hesitation is with assistants without proven head coaching experience. Moving into transition. Once we have moved through the transition period, I'm more open to an assistant coming in. Clark pushed those buttons. The problem with people that have head coaching experience is that there is a reason they are no longer a head coach. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I get it. There's a lot here in to figure out. We are a transition school. Transitions are not pretty. Our next coach needs to have head coaching experience. It is going to be a rough ride the next 4 years. We are in for a lot of pain the next 4 years. But after that I feel pretty good! I was at the First WKU Football game in Bowling Green (I think it was our first). Burgess was the head coach and someone named Harbaugh at WKU. We played pretty well but lost the game. They were 1aa, basically we were still D2. There was a huge difference that you could see between the two divisions in that game (Same with GSU in '92). We will see the same played out the next 4 years. Home Depot and Walmart are an example I can use. There are only a few people in the country who can be the CEO of either entity. Maybe 4 in the country. That's why they earn so much money. Its the lay of the land. South Carolina picked up a ex head coach in Muschamp. At the time he was probably the best they could get (Lay of the Land). He had dealt with a multi million dollar industry at Florida. It was a easy move to SC. Dealing with Boosters, recruiting.....4 years later, SC found a better coach. I'd take any of the below Head Coaches who had been fired: Lane Kiffin - Fired at USC Art Briles - Fired at Baylor Hugh Freeze - Fired at Ole Miss - Now at Liberty, a new conference mate. Ed Orgeron - Fired at LSU/Ole Miss I'm not saying we would get any of the above. Just using it as a point. I'm ok with hiring a assistant after the transition. I just think the lay of the land in moving to CUSA, would be smoother with a person with head coaching experience. At the time I was good with hiring Crowe. I think we should have hired him a year earlier. We just held on to him too long. Kirby Smart might be an exception to the above, moving to a head position from an assistant. It happens.

Had a former coach from the Cap’n Jack era call me asking for insight. He wants to come home and is interested in a position with the HC to be named. I was told that the university has hired a firm to assist with vetting and to handle details privately. That’s not uncommon. Also was told a former SEC HC declined to be interviewed as he preferred a coordinator position in the SEC. All that to say is things are moving behind the scenes.

Wonder why anyone would inquire about his availability. If you cant win at UF probably not HC material.

A former SEC HC preferring a coordinator role could also be Jeremy Pruitt. (He'd probably make more sense than Muschamp for someone to have contacted, since his son played for JSU.)

Really believe Pruitts litigation will keep him out of college coaching for a few more years. But he could not be any worse than Muschamp. Muschamp has had great opportunities and could not capitalize.

Orgeron is a bad head coach.
Great position coach.
Good coordinator.
Not a head coach.
Pruitt is probably under show cause. I am not sure.
Freeze and Briles are good head coaches... But a lot of baggage. Personally, I would prefer a successful coach from a lower division who has FBS experience in recruiting.
Muschamp is similar to Orgeron, I think. Great coordinator. Not a head coach.

If JSU doesnt win anything the management should win the tightlipped award. Done a great job of keeping the CUSA and now the coaching search information out of the public sector.

From listening to Seitz it seems the Cusa invite happened in the space of about a week.

Pruitt is my #1 Target if I was Seitz. Do not think he will take or be offered the job but Pruitt would be a good coach and a top name for us.
