Alas, Cooter Browns hasn't served pitchers in years. That's where me and a buddy went on my 21st birthday (on a freaking Monday), and they had them back then, but no more. Still, its my favorite place to sit and drink with a small group. Good variety of beer and liquor. Always "Crossroads" to me. You used to be able to take an empty 1/2 gallon milk jug out there and David would fill it up with cold draft beer to-go. Can't remember, I think it was like $5? Always sat up in the little loft area and drank way too many longnecks. Then had to try and negotiate the spiral staircase to get back down. Frought with danger.

Craft beer when I moved to Jacksonville in 2005 meant Shock Top, Blue Moon, and Pete's Wicked Ale. There were 40-something beers on the Jefferson's menu in 1991-93 when I was in J'ville. I went "Around the World" twice. The second time I did it in a single day - started before 12 and finished after dinner. I went in alphabetical order...Amstel and Abita helped me get through Coors and Bud flavors...I was buzzing strongly on Grolsch and slowed down around Heineken...picked up steam on Nordic Wolf Light...by the time I got to Red Stripe, Rolling Rock, Saint Pauli Girl, Sam Adams, Sapporo, Simpatico, Tecate and Telluride, I was pretty well lit and didn't care. Then I went to Technology class. I didn't beat that record for number in one day until one fine day in Thailand when I did it entirely with Chang. I posted from there on that day lol. How did they go from 40 to 6? When I was there it was Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Lite, Shock Top, Blue Moon, and Newcastle. $5 pitchers though.

If I remember correctly there was an underage person served at Jefferson’s who subsequently drove drunk and died in a car crash. The perception was that the Around the world club encouraged binge drinking and it was halted. In the fallout from the lawsuit that followed Jefferson’s was sold and the Around the world club halted. It was a long time ago and I can’t find anything about it on the internet, but I believe that is what happened. No intention of slandering Jefferson’s is intended, I am just recounting events as best I remember them. I was 19 when I went around the world the first time, and 20 the second time.

I worked for a delivery service that was partnered with this dive bar in Chattanooga. A couple of servers were letting people give them $100 cash for all they could drink in a night and somebody drove into a light pole in the parking lot and died. The whole place shut down.

I think the fallout is what provided the impetus for Jefferson's franchising. I may be wrong, but the timeline seems right.

Mamma Goldbergs served beer. The university bought it and changed it up. I can't remember if they serve beer now or not. I work on Saturdays so by the time we get to a game now it's just about to start. The other week when I cruised through campus I noticed that Mama Goldberg's is now "The Red Rooster Funtime Eatery"? Blasphemy I tell ya! May the memories of the original Red Rooster never be forgotten.

They are now out of business. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk "Jo Jo's Swamp Shack" doesn't exactly entice me to want to eat there. Throw down beers and such, sure.
