So since I've moved to the Frozen North I've spent the last season watching all our games on ESPN+. The one thing I noticed is it looks like I'm watching the game on a camcorder from 1997.
Why is it that teenagers on YouTube can have great production quality but a Division 1 University can not? I'm not going to pretend to understand what goes on in the production room, but what I do know is that, especially now with the move to FBS, we need to step it up.
It's been made clear, from the move to CUSA, to hiring Rich Rod, that the goal is to build Jacksonville State into a national brand. Obviously we're making huge plays to improve our on-the-field product but I'd hate to see the improvements to our facilities and our performances by our student-athletes overshadowed by poor video quality for the folks watching at home.
While it's great to be excited about the new facilities, we've seen over the past year that football is being consumed by watchers on television more than ever. I'd like to see an investment made into improving our media production as well as our facilities as going forward.

JSU games produced at home are noticeable better than what plenty of other schools put out. It's on par with a lot of G5 schools. The equipment and crews that FOX and ESPN use for their big games is way more expensive.

The Anustown Star article on Rich Rod commented that JSU would be hiring a "video coordinator" as part of the new staff.

The Anustown Star article on Rich Rod commented that JSU would be hiring a "video coordinator" as part of the new staff. I think that has more to do with organizing/analyzing game film than production.

Not saying we can't improve, but we are light years ahead of every team we played on the road this year. And last year.

Not saying we can't improve, but we are light years ahead of every team we played on the road this year. And last year. The biggest thing we can improve is our TV announcers. (Mike is a freaking legend on the radio. Keep him at all costs.) Mickey and Ray are nice guys. Really, they are. But the announcing and color commentary are so incredibly ... boring. But even then, I'd take Mickey and Ray 10,000 times over some of the morons I would've had to listen to this year, if it weren't for the ability to stream 92J while watching ESPN+.

We've talked about before the possibility of getting a P5 school at home is now real, although rare. We will start getting more teams with a national following.
Yes, we had a good setup for the FCS compared to a lot of other FCS programs. I won't dispute that.
But we aren't FCS anymore. If we get a big name team like a Mississippi State or a Georgia Tech at home, that's going to be a first impression to a lot of folks. And do we want to present ourselves to the nation as a school playing big boy pretend or as a school that values quality at every level.
No we don't need full 4k, a multi-million dollar mixing room, and all that hooplah. But being able to push a game at 1080p with a stabilized image should be a minimum.
Also as far as announcers go, I do agree we're better than a lot of our peers. Good announcers are rare. But some better sound processing wouldn't hurt to get rid of the grainy audio.
I'm pretty convinced our AV equipment has got to be 20 years old.

I used to watch our games on OVCTV and our home games had a much higher production quality than our road games.

Full disclosure: I know personally, or through my brother who was a coach, all of these guys. I think you meant Mickey and Butch Barker. Ray Hammett does Color with Mike on the radio broadcast. I know Matt Coulter is still at the speedway and lives somewhere in the area. He might be up for returning. I don’t know that we really need any changes though. I think we’ve got pretty good broadcasters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I missed where he was coming back...or I misunderstood that he was leaving.

I am hoping for better audio quality in the stadium I didn't hear any problems this year. Sounds like they had new speakers. 🤷♂️

A few things - the sound in the stadium this season was notably better in my opinion, but I have no idea what changes were made. Seemed to be less distortion and bass in the music.
Also, and I know I'm a broken record, but The Voice is as good as they come. I listen to tons of sports on the radio, and I'm very picky about how well I can "picture the game". In my opinion, Mike ranks right up there with the 'Golden Age' SEC announcers like Jim Fyffe, John Forney, Georgia guy, Miss St guy and UT guy. I miss all those voices. I'm glad Mike got some recognition this year with his Hall of Fame induction - just sorry he actually lost his "voice" calling the game.
