troy state went the other direction from JSU. Hired a younger up and comer vs an experienced Head School. JSU for sure has received lots more press for the hire of RR. The hiring of Sumral didnt get any press on ESPNU radio or any chatter at the Super7 (lots of people wanting their picture made with RR). Had to read it on troy state forum to get the news.
Hope this helps to be an advantage in recruiting. RR on a high school campus will bring tons more excitement than Sumral.

Should be a solid hire for them. They were in full panic mode the last couple of days on their forum, pretty funny.
They thought they were getting Butch Jones after tracking an airplane out of Jonesboro Arkansas lol

Had to swipe his phone to get rid of that last minute text message that came across. What, they don't have a proper conference room audio conference system to call him on? Nice.

This is a stepping stone back to the Kentucky head coaching job.

I think it's probably obvious Rich Rod will have more immediate impact with recruits. Whether you like him or not, he's a "name" coach, and a coordinator from UK, generally speaking, just doesn't have the same cachet way down in Alabama.
Who'll end up being the better coach? Who knows?
Sumrall could flame out. Rich Rod could be an unmitigated disaster.
But for now, I'm relishing having more people excited about JSU's new coach than troy state's new coach. For as long as it lasts, it's pretty awesome.
