Copied from CUSA board radio interview that JMU AD Bourne did with ESPN in Harrisonburg. Quick synopsis: James Madison is seeking to eliminate one year from the FCS to FBS transition along with Sam Houston and Jacksonville State JMU is being offered eight games (four home / four away) by the Sun Belt for '22 season if they can get assistance from NCAA with this transition which would make them bowl eligible in '23 instead of '24 JMU AD indicates that they need to have five FBS home games as part of the transition (did not verify if fellow transitioning schools Sam Houston/Jacksonville St would count) JMU AD felt very confident that they would be in the Sun Belt in July '22 in all sports and mentioned football is basically what would get them over the hump I know this very heavy on Sun Belt related content but as a Sam Houston fan, we certainly have an interest in what the Dukes are trying to pull off as it has a direct correlation to our program and could certainly tie into what we are doing. It also ties into the matter(s) related to the C-USA programs joining the Sun Belt for which timeline also impacts Sam Houston, particularly if they enter the league this coming summer vs. in '23. soundcloud.com/espn-harrisonburg/jeff-bourne-jmu-director-of-athletics-2

I’d be fine with it.

Sounds great, would it be possible to schedule 5 fbs games with our new conference mates. There are 7 fbs schools in cusa. Surely some arrangement could be made.

I don’t understand why HMU would have problems getting 6 home games from the sbc.

I don’t understand why HMU would have problems getting 6 home games from the sbc. Probably because the number of conference games was already set and contracts already signed for OOC games. They can't force schools to break contracts.

Wouldn’t we have the same problem? Unless the current cusa schools left for the AAC.

Seems like a simple solution if the NCAA allows us all to move, we should be allowed to play each other. Since JSU played in Huntsville this fall, Sam goes to J’ville, JSU goes to Harrisonburg, and JMU goes to Huntsville. Everyone has their extra home game. Now just have to find dates.

SBC and CUSA could strike a deal to satisfy the requirement.

Assuming the three Sun Belt bound schools leave in 2022, that puts CUSA at eleven and 13 if Sammy and JSU join.

If they are granted FBS status, then they should count. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Copied from Texas Terror on the CSNBB boards... (not my work)...
This would give us Sam at home, plus 4 CUSA teams. The 6th home game would be an FCS team... Kennesaw would be due to come to Burgess-Snow next fall, so possibly them? Unless we could work out a deal to play UNA again, or finally get that home game against UTC the Mocs have been avoiding all these years, the Owls would be the most attractive possibility. (Besides... it would let us see how well Rich Rod handles the T.O.)
We'd play on the road against JMU -- which would be incredibly intriguing, if the Southerners came along -- plus four more CUSA teams.
Unless some of the AAC movers jump early, at least one of the CUSA games would likely be UAB. (Possibly at Burgess-Snow, which would be awesome.) I'm assuming the Sun Belt-bound teams would be off the table, other than JMU, of course.
And of course, this whole plan would be contingent on the NCAA recognizing games between JSU, SHSU, and JMU as FBS games.
Thoughts?

If we play with a cusa 9 team conference, couldn’t 6 of the 7 fbs schools schedule us at home next year. If the former cusa schools are gone shouldn’t there be holes in the remaining schools schedules that need filled. Away games?
