If we play with a cusa 9 team conference, couldn’t 6 of the 7 fbs schools schedule us at home next year. If the former cusa schools are gone shouldn’t there be holes in the remaining schools schedules that need filled. Away games? Currently, CUSA plays an 8 game conference schedule, 4 home and 4 away. We would need Sammy to travel to JSU (as non con?)to get to 5 home games. If the AAC schools leave early I'm not sure it would work as there would only be 8 total conference opponents. We would still need another FBS home game. Maybe home and home with JMU???

Looking at this season's composite CUSA schedule, if we assume none of the AAC-bound teams leave early and that the three SBC teams are dropping all CUSA games for 2022, it looks like these are the games the conference would need to replace with JSU and SHSU:
Unfortunately, if a game against UAB happens, it looks like it'll be at Protective Stadium, not Burgess-Snow.
Oct 1: home vs MTSU (replacing Marshall) *OR* home vs UTEP (replacing ODU) Oct 8: at UTEP (replacing ODU) Oct 15: at UNT (replacing Marshall) *OR* at UAB (replacing USM) *OR* at WKU (replacing ODU) Oct 22: OPEN *OR* home vs SHSU Oct 29: at FIU (replacing Marshall) *OR* home vs MTSU (replacing USM) *OR* at La Tech (replacing ODU) Nov 5: at North Texas (replacing USM) *OR* home vs FAU (replacing Marshall) *OR* home vs FIU (replacing ODU) Nov 12: at UAB (replacing Marshall) *OR* at FAU (replacing ODU) *OR* home vs UTSA (replacing USM) Nov 19: home vs La Tech (replacing USM) *OR* home vs Charlotte (replacing Marshall) *OR* home vs MTSU (replacing ODU) Nov 26: at Charlotte (replacing ODU) *OR* at FIU (replacing USM) *OR* at WKU (replacing Marshall)
NOTES: JSU's game against Tulsa is scheduled for Sept. 17. As Texas Terror mentioned, we also have a game scheduled for 9/10 against Murray, which would be brokered away under his plan.
For our FCS home game, here are the non-conference schedules of our nearby ASUN opponents. Chances are, if we played one of these teams, we'd play them where their originally scheduled game against JSU would've fallen.
Kennesaw's current non-conference slate includes Samford (9/1), Cincinnati (9/10), Wofford (9/24), and UTM (11/5).
UNA's non-conference slate includes Indiana State (9/1), UTC (9/17), Tarleton (9/24), and Memphis (10/1).
EKU's non-conference slate includes E. Michigan (9/2), Bowling Green (9/10), Chuck South (9/17), and Southern Utah (10/1).
Peay's non-conference slate includes WKU (8/27), Presbyterian (9/3), and Bama (11/19).
Finally, UTC is unlikely to have an opening since no one from the SoCon is leaving, but just FYI, here's their OOC slate: EIU (9/10), UNA (9/17), and Illinois (9/24).

If the three Sun Belt schools leave and Sammy and us join, I imagine they’d just scrap the whole schedule and make one up since it would only last for one season.
If I was the schedule maker, I’d try to find a way to screw and/or tick off the six who are leaving. For UAB, their punishment would be going to Jacksonville. But I digress.
If we do join and play Sammy and Jimmy OOC, we could keep Tulsa and Murray and our schedule is done.
It would probably make it easier for everyone if one CUSA school joined the AAC a year early. That gives both leagues 12 members for 2022.

It's the SBC-bound teams leaving early who've hurt CUSA. As for Murray, that's currently scheduled as an away game for us. If we're playing an "FBS" schedule, we'd probably want any FCS team(s) to play us at Burgess-Snow. So something would have to change there, whether we turned it into a guarantee game for the Racers, or we brokered a deal where someone else went to Murray instead of us. If we can only have one FCS game, I'd much rather play one of our nearby rivals (UNA or KSU) than play the Racers.

I just want UAB to get pissed off about coming here.
I get FBS teams aren’t supposed to visit FCS, but we would still be transitioning and this was prescheduled so I don’t see a big problem with it.
But they have five OOC for 2022 so if they wind up in the MVFC (or if the OVC/Southland merger happens), they would need to drop some games so they might want to scrap the whole series.
