Yes, he is pushing forward with a “rebrand”. Trying to create an image that can be on the national stage.
Last year, marketing started putting a new gamecock logo on several things. If you’ve been to a game in the last 6 months, it’s the one on the new cups.
A little “cartoon-y”, but I like it as a secondary logo.
Also, he doesn’t like “Fear the Beak”. I lean towards agreeing with him. When Beehler started using it, he ripped it off of UTSA. They had it first. Need something that is solely JSU.

What is the hand signal? Crap is there anything you can do or say that isnt offensive to someone? Im too old to keep up. It's the "OK" sign. (Pretty much the same one used by JSU for the Fear the Beak thing. Don't tell anybody.) The sad thing is, the "OK" sign was NEVER -- NEVER -- actually used by "white supremacist" groups. It was part of a 4chan troll. Some wiseasses there realized the reactionary woke left was prepared to ban anything with even a passing connection to raaaacism, and started the rumor that shadow supremacist groups were using the "OK" sign to identify each other. And years later, Nebraska fell for the troll. Freakin' morons. Oh, and lest anyone say that 4chan starting such a rumor is grounds to ban such a universally used gesture, the same group also started a movement to ban white milk for ... being white. And sadly, some people fell for that one too.

I haven't been able to go to a game in a bit more than 6 months, so I have no idea which logo you're referring to. 2) Fear the Beak is just cringy. Always has been. I warmed up to it enough when it appeared EVERYONE was using it, but it always felt forced. And beaks are the last thing you need to fear with gamecocks. It's the spurs that get you. ("Fear the Spur" unfortunately was adopted by those other Gamecocks over in South Carolina. So was "Spurs Up". And pretty much anything else with "Spur" ... when Steve Spurrier was coach there, they used it on everything.)

Seriously doubt any of our competitors feared or fear the beak. I'd be fine if that went the way of playing "Cotton Eyed Joe" at the stadium. Did they stop playing that?

"Go Cocks" is still the best saying. Always will be.

I like "Fear the spur" with the hand gesture of each middle finger fully extended.

Just wasn't aware it was being used in a semi-official capacity by the U. I'd support that one. It's a mean, angry chicken. I can't ask for much more. Speaking of on-point branding... Is anyone else as stoked by the slogan on materials sent to recruits as I am? RUIN THEIR EXPERIENCEYes. Ruin it!!!! Make every opponent miserable on the field. Leave the "friendliest campus" stuff to the fans at the tailgate. They have beer.

Needs to be Jax State and no longer Jacksonville State University. Sounds like a community college in the middle of no where.

The Nebraska guy was doing the OK sign. Which is kind of odd, since OK is short for their (former) biggest rival. Now he is signaling #1, which is a better look anyway.
But anyone seriously offended by the mascot needs to chill. I think a lot of the OK signs people display are just trying to trigger people who get upset about it.
That being said, I hate “Fear the beak” and the hand gesture and not because it is supposed to be racist. I just think it is contrived and stupid. Good for RichRod if he wants it gone.
I also think the athletic department should brand itself as “Jax State”. It is unique and avoids confusion with places in Florida and Mississippi.

Edit: I just scrolled up and saw sinfoniansoutherner's post. Glad I'm not the only one that thought of cartoon-y lol
