Added RB Bam Smith as a Portal gain. Added QB Hunter Raquet as a Portal loss.
Bam Smith should have two years of eligibility remaining. He only played 4 games his freshman year in 2018 (preserving his redshirt), played in 2019, took the COVID year off in 2020, and played in 2021, leaving him eligible for us in 2022 and 2023.
Smith was rated 3-stars by Rivals and 247Sports. He was a member of Coach Rod's last recruiting class at Arizona. Should be a solid contributor for the Gamecocks.

I didn’t see Caldwell on your list of transfers. Is he still leaving? Also, when is the deadline for people to report to new teams. Lots of people out there right now that still haven’t landed anywhere.

There is a ton of quality in this class… the portal in has been a win. There’s little doubt that this is our highest ranked recruiting class ever.
That said, there is going to be so much turnover that a step backwards may be unavoidable. It is best to have it this year when we are changing our systems anyway and get it over with before we are playing a full FBS schedule.
The massive amount of transfers out and players not renewed is likely a reflection of the same issue that we saw with the lack of players drafted.

Lots of people out there right now that still haven’t landed anywhere. That was an oversight on my part. Caldwell's on the "losses" list now. He's gotten a few FCS offers already. He should find a good landing place. JSU's "exit" numbers were bound to be high this year. Too many reasons to name, but they're all pretty obvious: 1) We're Not Alone: Most (if not all) schools have seen increased Portal activity as a result of so many players with extra "COVID years", not to mention NIL, etc. Everyone's dealing with this. 2) Coaching Change: Schools usually see increased transfers out when there's a coaching change. 3) (Lack of) Postseason Blues: Due to the FBS move, JSU is postseason-ineligible this fall. No chance for a Natty; no chance for a Bowl. For players with a single year of eligibility remaining, it's hard to justify sticking around, especially for those players who can improve their pro potential by transferring to an FBS team. (See Harper, Grable, and West.) 4) Depth/Talent Upgrades: Also due to the FBS move, JSU has to upgrade depth at all positions and talent at most. This means for players at a position which was already deep (for FCS) they're now standing outside looking in. Caldwell was running 2nd behind Zion this spring. Raquet and Newman were fighting for the 3rd spot. Enter highly regarded high school signee Te'Sean Smoot and NC State transfer Aaron McLaughlin this fall, and now even Zion could conceivably find himself sitting at No. 3 on the depth chart. For anyone behind him, getting playing time would've been an uphill battle. The QB room is where this is most visible, but it's happening at several positions. Guys don't have to be "run off" to find themselves "expendable" in situations like this. Almost all these QBs could start somewhere at the FCS or D-II level. That's way better than sitting on the bench for the rest of their career. 5) Mediocrity: Even without the FBS move, JSU's mediocre finish to the fall 2021 season didn't exactly solidify playing time for very many players. Guys who've started every year of their career could find themselves riding the bench under a new coaching staff. This is NOT to say everyone's on the chopping block -- everyone has a chance to prove they belong. But losing that (perceived?) guarantee of a starting job is enough for some guys to check out opportunities elsewhere. For anyone who underperformed the last season or two under Grass, though, the writing is certainly on the wall. Bottom line: We've seen a bunch of exits and entrances already under Coach Rod. We'll likely see another wave next spring before things start to settle down. Coach Rod's 3rd year, our first as a bowl-eligible team, will be the first year where we're dealing with the exact same Portal dynamics as every other team in America. Until then, as King_Gamecock pointed out, I'm just glad the quality of newcomers (taken as a whole) seems to outweigh our losses, even accepting that a few of the losses are devastating. On paper, at least, we definitely appear to be headed in the right direction. We'll see how it plays out on the field.

...when is the deadline for people to report to new teams. Lots of people out there right now that still haven’t landed anywhere. I missed this question earlier. May 1 was the deadline for players to enter the Portal. There is no hard-and-fast date for signing with a new team. They just have to sign and enroll before each individual school's registration deadline. The deadline to return to their old team is, frankly, up to the head coach. If it's an amicable agreement where the player is exploring possible "upgrade" options for bettering their NFL Draft stock, the coach may hold that scholarship as long as possible. For players with legitimate NFL potential, this would be a wise move. If the player doesn't get an offer he likes, you get a stud back on your roster. Win-win. But for players who are just leaving because they 1) are disgruntled with their playing time or 2) have an over-inflated sense of their own talent, most coaches aren't going to hold that scholarship open for them. If they give up on the Portal and return, they'll find the door closed behind them.

I haven’t seen DJ Coleman land anywhere yet. I thought he changed his mind? That was last year. He re-entered the Portal again on March 9, but thus far hasn't signed. He's gotten some solid P5 offers, so I don't expect him to be back with the Gamecocks this fall.
