More Portal losses: OL Jacob Dennison has signed with Ohio. WR Kam White has signed with The Citadel. What's your opinion Whup, are we balancing the outgoing with incoming talent? For now, just looking at the Portal (not high school signees) it looks like a net loss. Apart from the pure numerical shift (10 incoming, 17 outgoing), we've lost a ton of guys to FBS programs (7, with 2-3 more still unsigned but holding offers). Those are the ones that hurt the most. If you're good enough to sign with even a low-end G5, you're good enough to be a solid contributor in the ASUN. Of course, losing guys to competitive FCS programs isn't much better... especially when we'll see those guys playing against the Gamecocks this fall. (Looking at you, Mr. Samuel.) Even with the guys moving down to D-II, there's an unknown. They can develop, become All Americans, and even find their way onto an NFL roster just like the FCS and FBS guys can. But if a guy hasn't started for us, or been a big off-the-bench contributor, we at least won't feel the immediate gut punch of his absence. Some guys will be addition by subtraction, but I don't know enough about the inner workings of the Gamecock locker room to speculate here. For purposes of this post, we'll assume every player lost hurts to some degree, whether it's an all-conference player or a scout team guy who merely provides depth off the bench. The silver lining to all this is, we're not alone. There have been several schools which have lost way more to the Portal than we have, even without coaching and subdivision changes. And our incoming number is competitive. We're not getting as destroyed by the Portal as we could've been, considering all the changes. Honestly though, we probably won't know until the fall roster is released. An incredible number of players (nationwide, not just JSU-bound) are flying under the radar. Either they don't use social media, or they're choosing to keep their moves quiet. I'm fairly confident we'll have a few surprises when fall camp opens. There are just too many scholarships available not to have guys in place to fill them. Of course, there's also the question of "talent" itself. If we lose an ASUN All-Conference player and gain a consensus 3-star player with limited FBS experience, did we gain or lose? Nobody knows until the new guy hits the field and shows what he can do in a game-time situation. That's the main reason I'm leaning towards pessimism here. We KNOW what guys like West, Harper, and Coleman could do. We don't know how any of the new guys will perform, no matter how many stars follow their name. I feel reasonably good about the state of the program, but I really need to see results before I go full optimist.

Perhaps the piss poor attitude has left JSU via portal also.

OK, it's official now. Former consensus 5-star center Clay Webb has transferred in from UGA. The Oxford HS product should have at least 3, maybe 4, years of eligibility remaining.
We also picked up former consensus 3-star RB Trent Davis from Duke. The Attalla native will have all 4 years of eligibility remaining.
I also got more conflicting info on George Steele. Details in the O.P.

Omar Sims has signed with La Tech. This is one more transfer lost to FBS (which proves how terrible last year's 5-6 finish really was) and more importantly, is one more player we'll have to face in the future.
Omar's got 4 years of eligibility remaining, so we'll face him and his new team for three years as conference foes, beginning in 2023.

QB Hunter Raquet has landed at D-II CSU-Pueblo.
This leaves Lemuel Gordon and Malik Feaster as the only two Gamecocks remaining in the Portal. Both have solid offers, but no new home as of yet.

And then there was one.
Malik Feaster has signed with the Florida State Seminoles, leaving Lemuel Gordon as the lone Gamecock in the Portal.
NOTE: Unless Joe Medley was right about George Steele. I still can't find anything on him, whether he's back at JSU or re-entered the Portal.

For those of you keeping score:
P5 Losses: 3.5
G5 Losses: 5.5
Total FBS Portal Losses: 9
FCS Losses: 5
Sub-FCS Losses: 2
NOTE: I counted UCF as half P5, half G5 since they're Big XII bound after this season, and for now, the Big XII still qualifies as a P5.

Portal movement is great at most school with coaching changes.
Also see the move from FCS to FBS and G5 to P5 (P3 to Big 2) being a common attrition in the future. Players will be like universities moving up the ladder every time possible.
