What schools might be interested in Ray Harper?
I can think of maybe 2.

He’ll be 61 in the fall and his best coaching job was Western Kentucky. He has done a fine job here but I don’t see him getting offers much better than what he has now. Of course, I don’t know how much he makes or what another place might offer.

Hopefully, Ray is not looking. I would like to keep him around. I thought about Murray, but I don’t think they will be interested. They could do a lot worse though. I think he would do really well there.

Is Tulsa a step up from La Tech?

I hope he stays... Somebody open the checkbook and at least let him know we see his worth. Not to mention, an increase of any amount could not hurt when the time comes to find a replacement.

Wouldn't be surprised if Murray re-hired Steve Prohm.

I want (and fully expect) Coach Harper to stay at JSU until he retires.
That said, I don't believe he'll be a candidate for too many "upgrade" jobs, simply because, while almost all of his JSU teams have been good, none have truly been dominant in comparatively weak leagues. I mean, if his teams were doing what Belmont and Murray have done over in the OVC, or if he had a "dunk city" style team in the ASUN, I could see someone taking a chance on him. And if he were 20 years younger, I think they WOULD still take a chance on him.
But an AD who values his job security is not going to bring in a guy nearing retirement age who's been solid, but not spectacular, at the low-end mid-major level.
(Hard to say all this without sounding like I'm dogging Coach Harper. I freaking love the guy as our coach. He just hasn't been dominant in a way that would turn heads at an upgrade job.)

A coach can only work with what he has until we recruit better we will not be better. It’s no huge task to be dominate with dominate players. But to win with a weaker team is the skill.
