It appears the fcs team that moved to sbc dominated the conference from the start except the crappy ga state

Heck SBC took CCU who appeared to be at the ceiling in FCS. CCU has done better in FBS than FCS. Their last FCS season was a 10-win year with a close loss to us in Jacksonville. I remember feeling lucky to escape that one. That was kind of the beginning of the feast or famine offense we came to know. The next week we blew out Liberty in a feast or famine game. We scored a lot of points on big plays...or we went 3 & out. We had Eli and Roc making big plays, or we had nothing. Without an Eli at QB and a Roc at RB, our offensive issues were even more obvious. While our run defense was great, we had a really hard time covering receivers. Bo Pelini noticed and it allowed Youngstown to torch us. The Penguins ran for over 200 because of their passing game averaging almost 27 yards per completion. We had the worst game plan I have ever seen. Youngstown had us scouted. They pressured Eli, shut down the deep ball, and tackled well in space. They knew they weren't going to completely shut down our running game, but they limited big plays. Eli finished with 6 completions and 2 picks. CCU went 3-9 in their first year of FBS. 5-7 in year 2 with a win over Kansas and one over troy state. 11-2 last season and their losses were by a combined 5 points to App and Ga State. They had another P5 win over Kansas (though Kansas is arguably the worst P5 team...2-10 with wins over USD and Texas? ).

Guess, I just dont fear FCS conference mates as much as some. Long term some will be better FBS schools than some of the present ones.

Guess, I just dont fear FCS conference mates as much as some. Long term some will be better FBS schools than some of the present ones. Just in case I've been misunderstood... Some of these teams will be In Cusa. The sheer number of reports of whole conference movement and conference mergers is ridiculous and none has ever been true. Some of these will be In a cusa and we all know who they likely are. The others will have to join together with the wac to sustain an fcs presence or both conferences will drop football If things get so bad this came true it would be a catastrophe for CUSA. This. The current CUSA 4.0 teams plus some combo of SFA, Tarleton, KSU, EKU, or UTC would get us to 12 or even 14 teams, without having to resort to desperately taking teams whose ceiling is clearly FCS.
Even if some poaching occurs at the top, there are other teams which could move in without having to merge with the entirety of the ASUN Football league and some imaginary revamped WAC.
And this is even if CUSA remains a bottom tier conference and doesn't magically surge to the top of the G5.I'm not afraid of FCS schools joining CUSA. My point really had nothing to do with the long-term outlook of FCS teams moving up. My point (and I believe, to some extent, Slim's) was that CUSA is not in such dire circumstances that it needs to *merge* with the WAC and ASUN. Will FCS teams factor into future CUSA expansion? Absolutely. But those teams will be invited individually to MOVE UP to CUSA. Any plan that involves moving teams en masse from FCS to CUSA will simply not be necessary unless CUSA becomes a complete bag of waste in coming years. CUSA can pick the teams who show promise and commitment to improve their programs: SFA has tremendous basketball and solid (and improving) football. They need to commit to an increase in funding and facilities to be considered. Tarleton is a D-II transitional school who has already demonstrated a commitment to better their facilities with an eye toward FBS. They are backed by the powerful and wealthy Texas A&M system and are located between three rapidly growing cities which are expected to merge into a single gigantic metroplex in coming years. KSU has the athletic success, student and alumni numbers, and major market location to deserve consideration. They really just need a football stadium and a more engaged fan base to get over the hump. (A new basketball facility wouldn't hurt, but the current will be fine for now.) EKU has been on a major crusade to improve its facilities in the past decade. They're really just a notch behind JSU, and I'd say they're more prepared than SHSU. That's four solid candidates. We need three to get to 12. At this point, we don't need to look to a merger with the ASUN and WAC to survive. We just need to decide whom to invite, and when.

It’s not a joke. We would kill to be in the Sun Belt. Much easier travel, school that actually have top notch facilities and quality football programs. Ga Southern and App state are better than any school in C-USA and that just to name two of them. We can catch them but years behind. We might be better than at certain sports but football is king. Congrats ksig

Not an exodus.
Pete Thamel @petethamel · 53m Sources: Kennesaw State has emerged as the favorite to become Conference USA’s tenth member. That addition is expected in the near future for Kennesaw to join effective 2024.
