I would not expect to see us paying UTC for a game. Unless they move to FBS, I don't see us playing them again. That's the glaring problem with my plan to have a rotation of UTC, UNA, and KSU. The reasons JSU never played troy state after they moved up to FBS were clear: 1) troy state wouldn't pay us as much as we could get from P5 and high-end G5 teams... 2) FBS teams don't travel to FCS stadiums, so we'd never get to host, even though our stadium was big enough to handle it... 3) troy state absolutely refused to hold steady at 65 scholarships, insisting that they fund the full 85 full scholarships mandated for FBS... (it's inexcusable, really...) 4) JSU looked at our options, and we realized we could go to an Ole Miss or FSU and play a team even the most casual fans actually got excited about; we'd know that if we won, people would talk about it for years afterwards; and win or lose, we'd get to cash a big ol' check for $350K, $400K, or higher. Or we could play troy state at their place every year, give them the scholarship advantage, let them likely take a huge lead in series wins, and come away with a check half as much as we could've gotten playing a higher profile opponent. JSU made the painful but wise choice to put the series on hold until such time as we were able to meet the trojans on equal footing once again. So the question is... why would it be any different for our biggest FCS rivals, UNA, UTC, and KSU? The answer: It probably wouldn't. We could still see some familiar faces as FCS opponents, but it's unlikely we'll see any kind of regular series between JSU and the teams down there we most love to hate. I could see a one-off game or two with any teams hoping to catch the eye of CUSA. (Throw EKU in that group.) But the "rivalry" games will probably be on hold until each team is finally able to move to FBS.

UAB troy Ga State OOC will be good home and homes. There's recent history with UAB and Ga St. (GSU is in Statesboro).
I know this isn't relevant to the topic of the thread, but Im on a roll. I think we will be surprised with how heated the games with Liberty, WKU, MTSU, and Sam Houston will get once we get up to speed.

Ga St just doesn’t do it for me. I’d like to build a rivalry with a team that will grow in competitiveness with us. Imagine beating a rival who is beating upper level teams I’m not to sure about rekindling anything with troy st either I’d rather play teams that are good teams rather than competing with bottom dwellers. I’d like to see UTC move to cusa so we could further a hatred with a team who will improve with us.

I still don't understand the Kennesaw "rivalry." Seems like you have to beat the other team at least once.

Let me defend my Ga St comment. I have a lot of fun going to Atlanta for a football game, but I'm assuming Georgia Tech won't be on the schedule regularly. (KSU, as the name implies, is not in Atlanta). Georgia Southern is the true GSU. I will die on this hill.

So far, there aren't too many surprises in this poll:
FBS LEADERS troy state (18) UAB (15)
FCS LEADERS KSU (10) UTC (5) UNA (4)
(59 total votes from 20 voters)
I think an FBS home-and-home series with either troy state or UAB would be a great thing. We have more history with the trojans, but UAB would be closer geographically, with far more market reach. I'd love to see both, but I'll take either. And if we can't get a regular, every-season rivalry going, I'd be fine with a rotating set of home-and-homes against any regional G5s -- troy state, UAB, USA, GA State, Ga Southern, Southern Miss. Some of these would be bigger than others, but they'd all be relatively easy travel games against opponents most of our fan base would know.
As for FCS, I think any combo of UNA, KSU, and UTC would be fine with most Gamecock fans. We probably wouldn't see a "regular" rivalry game against a lower division opponent, but you really can't go wrong with these three as a core group. (Accepting, of course, that other regional FCS teams could also make an appearance from time to time.) It goes without saying we would never want to lose one of these games, no matter who the opponent happens to be.

Since JSU is playing as a FCS school at Tulsa this year, how about trying to add on a home and home with Tulsa. At Tulsa in 2025 and then at JSU in 2026? fbschedules.com/ncaa/tulsa/

Wouldn't mind picking up half of this. At USU in 2023 and at home in 2024. Utah State is pretty competitive (other than COVID year). ------------------------------------------- FBSchedules.com @fbschedules 8m BYU, Utah State announce that their football games scheduled from 2023 through 2026 have been canceled due to the Cougars moving to the Big 12.

I would pick troy state, GA Southern (since I moved to Savannah, it's a game I could attend) and either utc (fun to kick their @$$) or ksu. But I agree about mud stomping ksu. I'm tired of losing to them.

Sounds like Cincy, Houston and UCF want to join the Big 12 for 2023. Since the Big 12 plays 9 conference games I wondered who might already have contracts for 4 non-conference games. UCF only had 2. Cincy has 4 and Houston has 4. Possibilities for JSU to fill a contract would be at NC State (UC) or Kansas (Houston).
