Two of our biggest RB stars have entered the Portal. As grad transfers, they'll be eligible to play anywhere.

Seems like we've had more transfers out than usual this year. While I'm willing to chalk it up to RichRod shaking things up I'd be very curious to hear some of the background on why some players are leaving. I would expected Samuel and West to both be staples in the new offense unless we got some new absolute studs on the squad. These two just seem odd to me.

Samuel and West are both grad transfers, so they could possibly be exploring some FBS opportunities to maximize their NFL chances. I agree, though. I was kind of blindsided by the news, especially since both announcements came within a half hour of each other. The cupboard's not bare behind them... just largely unproven and MUCH smaller: Ron Wiggins (5-11, 180, 254 yards, 5.9 ypc, 2 TDs) is the top returning back, along with Matt LaRoche (5-9, 185, 105 yards, 9.5 ypc) and Pat Jackson (5-9, 215, 60 yards, 4.3 ypc). Youngsters Markel Cheeseboro (6-1, 188) and Kaleb Jones (6-0, 195) didn't see too much action in 2021. Joining them this fall will be highly regarded recruits Reggion Bennett (5-9, 170) and Anwar Lewis (5-8, 180). I was really hoping the new guys would be able to redshirt the 2022 season so we'd maximize their time with us after the move up, but looks like we'll be counting on them to contribute right away. Either way, I expect to see a big focus on offense (including RB) in this December's recruiting class.

I’m not that concerned, we all complained about the team attitude and the sooner we clean house the sooner the attitude will be gone. I’m Not saying any of these has a bad attitude but it was definitely there and the more who leave the less likely it will remain and the better the team will be. Also IMO although I really liked samuels neither was as good as troymaine pope or demarcus James. Can we have those two back?

I hate to lose two strong contributors, but there may be a lot more to this. Rich Rod is an offensive coach and he has a particular style and a particular type of player that he needs in his offense. He has already mentioned a few times this spring that our team speed on offense is not up to par.

I thought they were both great backs and I think you'd be surprised how Pope and James would perform in the 2021 offense. It's been much tougher sledding at running back the past couple years. James and Pope were bother blessed with the best offensive lines Jax States ever had and they had Eli Jenkins. West and Samuels have had less than ideal OLs and a QB that would waste 40 snaps a game trying to pad passing stats.

Either he's got the bar set a lot higher or we are gonna stink. I sure hope it's the former. But given the track record of the new system taking time to get into it's groove I wouldn't be surprised either way. It's a good thing next year doesn't mean much. Honestly, as long as Rich Rod can show he can coach and improve a team throughout a season, I'll be happy.

Perhaps west and samuels would do just as well. I seriously doubt it. And demarcus James was a beast and a guaranteed yardage with Defenses hanging onto him Was you not watching all that go down. Samuels and west aren’t even on the same field with those two. One problem we were having was a steady decline in recruiting over the years.

It shouldn’t be hard to beat 6-5 if he can’t do that with an expanded roster perhaps we made a terrible mistake.

Don't forget we regularly beat teams transitioning to FBS. The same thing will happen to us. This fall is practice.
I've said before there's only one win I need this fall, and it's KSU.

Overhauling culture is extremely difficult. Doing both in one season is a lot to take in. This season may resemble 2013. We should see improvement each week... I don't know if we have an Eli on the roster...much less Troymaine Pope and Jamarcus James. Undefeated or losing season... neither would surprise me or panic me.

Hope they all fine a welcoming and great opportunity at their next stop.
As for JSU and RR, RR should be allowed to make his adjustments to the program and if they dont work JSU should make adjustments.
