Is Marcus Mariota an upgrade from Matty Ice? NO! Honestly have no clue if he's an upgrade or not. Can he scramble better than Ryan? That'll be the true test as he'll be running for his life every game. Not like he's got any receivers to throw to.

Ryan had to go. He's an OK QB (some would argue he's a great one) but only when he's not running for his life. The Falcons' OL is holier than the Vatican. With Ryan's contract (and Julio's, for most of that time), there was just no cap room to bring in a proven veteran on the line, but they've had so many other needs, they could never bring in more than one or two linemen in the draft.
It complicates things when their drafts consistently bring in underachievers on D. How long has Edge been a need for the Falcons? It's a hole that can never be filled. Watching the Falcons draft pass rushers is liking watching Sisyphus and his boulder, except Sisyphus at least gets to the top of the hill before everything comes crashing down again.
But I digress.
The Falcons need cap room, so Julio is gone. And now Ryan is gone. And this year, we still don't have much cap room. Ryan's dead cap is the stuff of legend.
But in 2023, Atlanta will have something like $100M+ in cap space.
I guarantee you, they're going to go after Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud in 2023.
As for 2022... focus on getting a line to protect him. Use some mid-round picks on a receiver or two, since our WR corps has imploded.
And, I dunno, maybe draft an edge rusher.

Old Man Blank gonna be staring at another empty MBS this year. Agreed that the Ryan/Julio contracts killed this team then and all the years since. Tank hard in 2022 is my vote.

If we don't see am obvious player who fills a glaring need, we need to trade that 8th pick down for draft capital. If we draft a wideout at #8, I'm going to break stuff. I like receivers -- don't get me wrong -- but receivers don't mean much if your QB is lying on his back. If they're serious about winning a Super Bowl some day, they'll use this draft to build some OL and defensive depth, and trade down wherever possible for some draft capital in 2023. I don't think they have to try to tank in 2022. I think it'll just happen naturally.

Give me the best OL and DL and you can have the top 10 QBs, then you can watch me in the Super Bowl.

Just saw the Tide commercial with Ryan wearing his Falcons jersey. They might need to change that.

Arthur Blank had managed to run the Falcons and Atlanta United into the ground somehow. Pretty impressive.

There's that word again... So Proctor and Gamble hires JSU grads? I get it’s an old ad and getting him, Gordon Ramsey, and Ice T together to reshoot isn’t simple. But it’s still an odd look. At least photoshop the “ATL” off his jersey. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Preseason starts tonight!!! I watched the game. It was interesting for sure. Not sure what to make of it, preseason and all plus Detroit is a dreg of a team aren't they? Drake London gets his first catch and goes directly to the medical tent. Hopefully just a stinger. I did like the RB - Algiers I think is his name. Seemed pretty solid.

It was a preseason game. It means literally nothing. That said, if Detroit holds onto the ball the Falcons are 0-1.

Think I'm gonna ride with the Bills this year. They play a fun brand of football.
