Ideally we could revive the battle for the old school bell. But in its absence is there potential realistic future rivalries where we could play a yearly or bi yearly trophy game.

If a regular series can be started with UAB, that one needs a name. Hopefully, something more clever than "The Battle of I-20". (What a stupid, unoriginal name that would be.)
For as long as they remain in CUSA with us, the MTSU game has a LOT of rivalry potential. It'll really pick up if we can manage to make a quick transition to competitiveness. (They need a reason to hate us. If we can't beat them, we'll just be a more convenient anonymous conference opponent.) That one also needs a name, but as with UAB, I'm clueless what to call it.
USA could be some sort of cross-state thing, but we've never played them, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Ga State was kind of gaining traction until they moved up. But there's not really a lot of history there either. Maybe we could call it "The Battle of I-20"!
Yes, I did that on purpose.

Oh, and there are some others out there (Ga Southern comes to mind) but -- and this is really true for anyone, including UAB -- we can call it a rivalry all day long, but unless we beat that team, they'll look at us like we used to look at West Georgia.
And no one wants to be looked at like that.

Rivalries develop. You can’t just declare one and invent some trophy or you look stupid.
Once we have been FBS for a few years I hope one conference game becomes something special. We didn’t have that in the OVC.
It also has to be big on the other side. MTSU is our closest conference mate but WKU will be bigger for them for now. Maybe Kennesaw will join and we’ll have that.

I think I've shared this before, but one of my all-time favorite family moments was way back in our D-II years. I was sitting at the dinner table across from one of my cousins, when he looked at me, smiled, and said his daughter was starting college that fall at JSU's "big rival." "Oh! She's going to troy state?" "No..." "UNA?" "No...?" "Oh, man... she's not going to Delta or Mississippi College, is she?" "...she's going to West Georgia." "Ooooohhhh. ... Oh."

I don’t think it would need to be a conference mate as they come and go. I really would like the opportunity to break the spirit of UTC year after year.

No rivalry, 98% of the students probably think we are in Florida GSU rival is GA Southern.

No rivalry, 98% of the students probably think we are in Florida GSU rival is GA Southern. Yes, but at the time, Ga State averaged 10 fans per game. Those 12 fans represented a 20% surge in attendance when they played us. No rivalry, but all I said was that it was "kind of gaining traction until they moved up." Then I gave it a stupid, unoriginal name, because it doesn't deserve much else. At the time our non-rivalry was "kind of gaining traction" Ga State was still FCS and was not playing Ga Southern. So the Eagles are moot in this discussion. Besides, no one ever said you can only have one rivalry. That's small-minded thinking. In D-II we were rivals with troy state, UNA, West Ga (ha!), Delta State, and, thanks to their '89 shenanigans, Mississippi College. Most of those rivalries were very much two-way rivalries. Mutual hate is the way. Our FCS rivals were/are UNA, KSU, and UTC. EKU is a minor rival... probably a bigger rival for the team than most casual fans, but there's a solid amount of fan hate there as well. In CUSA, we'll instantly have a rivalry with MTSU. Maybe a minor one with Liberty, if we can catch up to them in football. WKU should be a decent one. And Sam Houston fans still hate us for that 62-10 shellacking we gave them during our big run in 2015. Now, Liberty and SHSU are limited by distance. WKU is just barely close enough that something further can develop. MTSU is in a prime location. All we have to do to develop these rivalries is hold up to our end of the bargain and not suck. If we're cupcakes, no one's going to care about us. It'll be just like how JSU used to view West Ga, even though they saw us as their biggest rival.

It will help immensely if we can handout more shellacking

They *should* think that way of us, but their problem is, they don't. At least, not yet. We've handled them (usually) in most other sports, so that's helped, but we're in bad shape on the football end of things, and that matters in the South. The move to CUSA bought us some time, admittedly... right now, they're jealous of us, which enflames the rivalry substantially. "Hey! How did THEY get invited before us??!!" But if we don't kick their ass -- and soon -- we'll definitely get the West Ga treatment.

The trouble we have is against the TO perhaps with a new coaching staff that will immediately change.
