Let’s just move the university to Oxford and we can be Oxford University. of america I had thought about that idea for a handful of games.

Why can't we be University of Jacksonville? It's still different from Jacksonville University in FL, along with being in a different state. OT a little.... but I don't understand why Boise State hasn't changed to Boise. It would give their brand a "bigger" feel to it. It's hard to imagine the Pac-12 liking the idea of adding a name like Boise State.... but Boise? Makes them more alike to Auburn, Memphis, Houston, Clemson, Miami, etc. Not sure I agree about Boise. Ohio State brand is big as is Arizona State, Florida State, NC State, Michigan State ... There's a difference between "City" State and "State" State. All of those schools you mentioned are state flagship schools. If Florida State was instead Tallahassee State, that's a big difference.

Anything that keeps "Jacksonville" in the name is no better than what we have now.
Naming the university after a person is just a bad idea nowadays, ruling out "Andrew Jackson University", "John Pelham University", "Ladiga University", and a few other possible choices. It's a shame, really. Look at "James Madison University". They were originally a teachers college, just like us. If they were called Harrisonburg State, they'd still be mired in D-II.
East Alabama U, U of East Alabama, Northeast Alabama U, and variations don't give us any additional prestige. Just ask the schools in the MAC or Southland.
Looks like we're stuck with Jax State. Let's roll with it. Maybe we'll force Jackson State and Jacksonville University to change THEIR names.

I don’t know why people bring up this stupid topic year after year. Like I said troy st has tried it and they are still just as crappy as they were. If you want to change something make your name mean something.

UNA was Florence State until early 1970s. Livingston switched to UWA in the 1990s.
Jax State makes us stand out.

While growth at uNA has excelled I’m pretty sure it’s because Huntsville is now the largest city in alabama. As for UWA I’d say a name change has done nothing to accelerate its growth.

Maybe the city of Huntsville is bigger than the city of Birmingham. But the metro is still only half the size of Birmingham.

Regarding people confusing Jackson State or Jacksonville U with us I get it when it's the casual fan etc. but when it comes to ESPN, I don't think changing our name would solve the problem. It's ESPN's job to know this stuff. The problem is they are just stupid and you can't fix stupid.

Say what you will all may be true but those who live there frequent Huntsville and vice versa and not Birmingham. As Huntsville grows so does Florence Athens Decatur etc….

Huntsville is an infinitely nicer place to visit than Birmingham. Just saying that population stats are usually better portrayed by metro population than city populations.

My point was that tuna has grown some not because of some name change but because of the growth of the Huntsville area which includes Athens Decatur and florence.
