Football should not be played on a baseball field.
We were sitting in the end zone behind the first base dugout so at least we saw all the scoring. But from that vantage point it was hard to really follow the action and get an idea of what yard line they were on.
I don't think it would have been better on the sidelines as the people there were watching at angle. The Southerners were on temp bleachers in the outfield behind our bench. Ken posted on Facebook he couldn't see the game. The UNA band were way behind the left field wall. No way they could see anything.
The lighting wasn't great. It was dark where I was sitting and they kept blinking the lights for effect. I also had loud music blaring in my ears between plays.
The down and distance was hard for me to read on the scoreboard because of the small numbers. Granted, I have poor eyesight but they could have done better.
You could see outlines of the infield and where the pitcher's mound was. And home plate was visible.
CUSA should ban UNA from even being considered for membership unless they promise never to pull crap like this again.
Football should not be played on a baseball field.

UNA fan on AGS was telling me the whole game was basically UNA trying to stick it to the Florence BOE for being difficult with the stadium. I'm thinking CUSA isn't interested in a school who plays football in a stadium at the mercy of the local high school.

But! the announcers were hoping this would be an annual event. Everyone connected to it did such a great job pulling it off. No, I'm not kidding. 😠ðŸ˜

I grew up in Florence. I don't know why UNA never had their own place. I guess being in D2 it just worked out for them. Their stadium isn't bad but it certainly isn't great. But I have been in it once since I graduated high school and that was nearly 30 years ago so I don't know what it's like now.
I never really knew who owned the stadium until a few years ago. The BOE is a separate legal entity from the city so the city is out of it. The BOE really only has to look out for Florence High School.
I was hoping for a last game there but oh well. We won. I agree no FBS league is calling someone who has to rent the high school stadium.

It was a nice crowd but there were a good number of empty seats around us. If you are taking about butts in seats I wouldn't even call it a "near sell out".

The worst part of this whole affair was that some claimed the Trash Panda stadium was used "for publicity".
Publicity, one assumes, like TV announcers saying, "Here's something you don't see at the FBS level..." or FCS guru Craig Haley saying, explicitly, "This should not happen in D-I football"??
But at least the ESPN+ stream made up for it right? ... RIGHT?!
Nope. It was poorly lit, the cameras had horrible sight lines, and when I showed my wife the game playing on my phone, she asked why I was watching a high school game. (Honestly, I've streamed a lot of Alabama 3A and 4A football games in recent years, and this was low-to-mid tier in that group.)
I loved the revival of the UNA series while FCS, especially since our only other true historical rival at this level is UTC, and we can't seem to get them to play us at Burgess-Snow...
But no. I'm done with tuna now.
This was, in the immortal words of Charles Barkley, "Turrible. Just turrible."

It would be a better spot for JSU and TUNA to meet for a baseball game. It would be less attended, yes, but require a whole lot less work for the staff, and possibly be more profitable. It would unquestionably be a better sporting experience for all involved.
I love Madison (it was my home for nearly 25 years), and never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined seeing a Jax State football game there. But I'm not excited about attending one at Toyota Stadium again.

There's some speculation over on the TUNA board about future meetups between us, which I would normally disregard as the same type of fun but idle speculation we see around here. But it does include include a cryptic comment attributed to AD Seitz: unapride.proboards.com/post/16401/thread

We better not play an FCS school in a baseball stadium ever again. It is just a bad look. We have a very nice stadium and any games against UNA should be played there. If they ever join FBS they can have a home/home with their half wherever they want it.

I had it streaming on a second tv and would literally have to walk up closer to the tv to see what was happening. Needless to say it didn't command a lot of my attention during the night. Putrid.
