There's some speculation over on the TUNA board about future meetups between us, which I would normally disregard as the same type of fun but idle speculation we see around here. But it does include include a cryptic comment attributed to AD Seitz:

I learned my lesson nearly two years ago about blowing off comments by UNA fans.
Random UNA fan: "I heard a rumor Jax State will be leaving the OVC and joining UNA in a new football league sponsored by the ASUN."
Me: "That's cute."
(JSU and EKU leave the ASUN, UCA leaves the Southland, and UNA and KSU leave the Big South to form the ASUN Football conference.)
Me: "Oh."
That said, even if Seitz and his co-conspirators are up to no good with a plan to bring all our FCS rivals up to FBS, this is NOT something that's going to happen soon. UNA is working out a lot of internal issues trying to find their footing in D-I (facilities, funding, and even coaching).
UCA's funding is nowhere near the level it needs to be, with no hope for an increase in sight, and they were explicitly pulled off the CUSA expansion table, according to one well-placed twitter rumor.
SFA is also facing institutional issues, and may be in no position to join their ol' pals from the Piney Woods up in FBS.
I'm not sure Peay has any FBS intentions whatsoever.
Tarleton is spending money left and right on facilities (and facility upgrade announcements) but is years away from having most of those facilities completed.
So that leaves the current WAC-ASUN with only one team (EKU) ready and willing to commit to an FBS move at this time.
But the ASUN's original FBS timeline was 8-10 years, so Seitz and company could be playing the long game here. If UNA, SFA, etc., actually have a real desire to move up, 10 years is plenty of time for them to prove it.
It may seem like that isn't much time to make improvements, but 10 years ago, JSU was wrapping it up its final season under Jack Crowe, after having just upgraded and expanded Paul Snow Stadium. Renovations to the Pete hadn't been announced yet, the baseball team played in a 2A-high-school-quality stadium, the softball team was still using the old leftover D-II baseball stands at University Field (their renovation came in 2013). And that doesn't even factor in all the changes on the academic side of campus.
I'm not ruling out a surprise announcement, but I'd be shocked if anything big changes within the next 2-3 years.
