I heard from a reliable source that there will be no new suites on the north sideline due to cost. I guess we had a season's worth of 1pm games in order to get new aluminum benches for the north sideline?!?!? The way things seem to be going, they will probably just reinstall what they removed 😬🤦🏻♂️ That's disappointing, but as long as the old press box is removed, I'm OK with this. Take it down and replace it with seating plus maybe a camera tower or two. We'll have removed two eyesores -- the old fieldhouse and the old pressbox -- and probably increased seating capacity to around 25K. Not my preferred outcome by far, but it's an improvement, just on a much smaller scale. Importantly, it doesn't wreck future expansion/enhancement options for the north stands.

There is supposed to be plans available in around a month. Hopefully it includes a better looking entrance to the fieldhouse. The current rendering looks like it was planned to be ugly enough to require renovation in 10 years

The current rendering looks like it was planned to be ugly enough to require renovation in 10 years I didn't want to say anything, because I griped enough about the BoT meeting coverage... but you're right. I understand stripping the original stadium renovation down to merely a pressbox demolition, some new benches, and a rebuilt fieldhouse, but it doesn't seem at all unreasonable to expect the new fieldhouse to look nice. I mean, here's what they have down in Pike County: I'm not asking for a duplicate of this. But something approaching that level of niceness doesn't seem like I'm asking too much. I mean, couldn't they at LEAST match the basic architecture of Meehan Hall?

There has been a number of comments on this thread and others regarding the stadium renovation. A large percentage of those comments center around individuals being concerned that what is finally approved and built will be less than 1st Class. I share many of those same concerns.
In truth, nice things cost. Specifically when it comes to Stadium enhancements, alumni and fan financial contributions are essential.
If you are REALLY concerned, make a donation at whatever amount your budget allows. Whether it is $100 or $100,000, it all helps with the bottom line and allows for additional upgrades. Decisions and plans will be finalized soon, so don’t procrastinate.
Go Gamecocks!!!

Any idea what will become of Ramona Wood? The College of Education is relocating to the old Kitty Stone as early as January. My son is in the new Pre-K program through the university and we’ve been told by a few folks on staff that they are expecting the move to be completed by the start of the Spring semester.

Need to tear down the old nursing building. It is an eyesore. Make it a greenspace if nothing else.

Need to tear down the old nursing building. It is an eyesore. Make it a greenspace if nothing else. If there are no plans for an actual building there, that'd be an awesome place to put a small park/picnic area. It could serve as a de facto tailgating area for softball fans, but could be used the rest of the year for small outdoor events (organizational cookouts, etc.) or simply an outdoor space for students from Martin/McGee, Rowe, and the Library to study.

Finally had a moment to put the most recent ROC rendering in some kind of context. This is JUST AN APPROXIMATION of the new plan for visualization. It's not anything official from the university or the architect, but it may help understanding the scale of the project.

What I really dislike most about moving the ROC to this site is its off the main road and out of sight. The ROC could have been a marquee building at the front of our campus, similar to the Murchison Performing Arts Center at University of North Texas. Its the first thing you see when you pull onto campus and its a beautiful building. I get the cost savings, which are huge, but a missed opportunity in my opinion. However I will also say, just build it anywhere as soon as possible. JSU is about 40 years late building a concert hall worthy of our music program.

I agree totally about the missed opportunity to create a marquee building on campus. A "performance center" is not something you tuck away into a dark corner behind the science building. It should've been on Hwy 21. Even Mason Hall has more visibility than this. It'd be fine if it was "just" the music building. But a performance venue bearing the name of one of our most famous alumni seems an odd choice for cost-cutting. I know, I know. I've been one of the ones defending this decision. But it's not so much that I'm defending the idea itself, as it is me simply trying to eliminate the gobs of confusion out there. I really thought JSU would take advantage of Homecoming to put some concrete info out there regarding both the stadium and the ROC. We've gotten neither. It's irritating. They complain we've only raised about 60% of our $10M funding goal, then they go months without giving any solid details about the project. Hell, the renderings on the ROC fundraising page were outdated even BEFORE the July decision to move the project to FBC. Now, they're doubly outdated. C'mon, JSU. Do better.

How long until they give some other department the building and the Chamber Winds has to play in supply closet?
