Tonight you can get a look at future CUSA conference mates on CBSSN. La Tech at FIU at 7:00 FIU is still not a good football team (they lost 73-0 to WKU earlier this season) but they have shown improvement in recent games, beating Charlotte 34-15 last weekend. Mike MacIntyre and staff seem to be slowly but steadily coaching the suck out of them. Meanwhile, La Tech is better than their 2-5 record would indicate. Two of the losses were to Missouri and Clemson, and one was to 5-2 USA. The Bulldogs looked bad against UNT, but then played Rice well, losing by a point in OT. Both teams could potentially be pretty decent in 2023. Over on the other side of the continent, traditionally awful NMSU has shown brief glimpses that they, too, are leaving the suck behind, with solid wins over Hawai'i and New Mexico, who appear to be taking over the mantle as the worst teams in college football. At the very least, Coach Jerry Kill should have the Aggies playing mediocre football by next season. (That's a huge improvement.) The biggest disappointment among the current CUSA teams is MTSU, which, after big wins against Colorado State and Miami (FL), has looked pretty awful the past three weeks. WKU has been strong, and Liberty has been dominant. Sam is a bit weaker than previous seasons, but probably still stronger than Jax State. We have our work cut out for us next season.
