Year - Number of Penalties (Place/Number of FCS Teams)
2013 - 106 (82/122) 2014 - 91 (96/121) 2015 - 101 (84/123) 2016 - 116 (121/122) 2017 - 82 (70/124) 2018 - 100 (96/124) 2019 - 81 (81/122) 2020 - 106 (89/89) 2021 - 86 (112/122) 2022 - 47 (12/123)
What a turnaround under Rich Rod. Almost half the penalties and we leapfrogged 100 teams in that department.

I feel like the transfer portal is a good representation of the culture changing. Not that they were the problem. But it sure seems some of them were. The shift in penalties is the result of that. It sure was nice benefiting from other people's stupid penalties.

Hats off to HCRR and staff for getting the penalty situation corrected, or at least trending in the right direction. Much improved.

The Portal may have had a small role, but one of my least favorite players in 2021 (due to his constant, horribly ill-timed stupid personal foul penalties) was still on the team in 2022. And he was one of our defensive leaders.
Coaching/culture was the issue.
