I like it. It took a long time for the feather logo to not ruffle my feathers. This is simple and separates us from the Mississippi school.

I like it much better, I think it better says who we are. Put that inside the state of Alabama and I love it. How long till it's splashed on apparel.

I am totally down with the rebranding. I have been advocating for using Jax State for almost 2 decades. That being said, you can obviously tell this was an "in house job" as the article mentions, as there is a significant gap between the top of the A and the X. A professional word mark designer would not have allowed this in the final design, but most people won't notice or care. My hope is that this is just a stop gap logo until we have a full redesign in a few years. I would imagine we stop using the angry Gamecock logo as it has Jacksonville State on it. Additionally, it is too complex to be clearly printed or stitched on clothing. My hope is that we start using the old foghorn logo more.

Additionally, it is too complex to be clearly printed or stitched on clothing. My hope is that we start using the old foghorn logo more. I noticed the gap as well. The good news is, we have people at the university, in the Art department, who would be able to fix that at little to almost no cost. (I know some JSU admin types read this forum from time to time. Here's your subtle hint to make a call to your school's graphic design folks.) That said, I like it. Short, sweet, simple, effective. The only major thing I would've changed is the 3D "bubble" effect on the letters. I didn't like that in the previous logo. I don't like it in this one. But I'll live with it. Even if it is straight out of 1997. Athletically, a rebranded chicken of some sort would be nice, for precisely the reasons jsu02 mentioned: we need one simple enough to look good printed or stitched on clothing AND for TV, it needs to look good from a reasonable distance and maintain its clarity at low resolutions for scoreboards/lower thirds. And it needs to look mean.

There are a LOT of people who are equating this to the same thing as troy state university changing its name to "troy university". Lots and lots of "My DIPLOMA says *JACKSONVILLE* State, not Jax State!" followed by an unintelligible grunt.
Social media has conditioned me to reflexively attack these people as morons. But honestly, they're just mistaken and confused. I have to remind myself of this.
I guess we all probably need to, until folks finally "get it."
When you see this, calmly reply that Jacksonville State is STILL Jacksonville State. This new logo is just a wordmark for marketing and licensing merchandise. No more, no less.
If they keep at it, then you can mock them:
"It will ALWAYS be Jacksonville State to me. I can't stand when people call it (hrumph!) 'Jax State'!!"
"Really? Can you sing the fight song? SMH..."

I love the old walking fighting rooster. Just put him at one end. Here's a rough mockup. I didn't notice it before, but the colors have changed. The black is more of a dark gray now, but the red is noticeably darker than previous logos. I had to make some adjustments on the bird to make sure he matches. I tried one with the mid-80s style Gamecock as well, and it worked OK, but I didn't have time to get the colors right on that one. It's a but more complex. Besides, as much as I like that bird, it does NOT work well with stitching or low resolutions. So we'll go with the classic Fighting Cock instead.

The Jax State moniker isn't new. I was a freshman in the fall of '71. Jax State was used then by many of the speakers in my freshman orientation. I asked the SGA president if it was Jack State or Jax State. Later there was a Large, very tall sign on the corner (right side if your facing the "Student Commons" now called Montomery building) just across from Bibb-Graves. (Yes I know they changed that.) The sign was the "walking" Gamecock with JAX STATE written under it.

Most of us here know that, seeing as we're on a site called "We Are Jax State" at "JaxState.freeforums.net" and (in many cases) are refugees from a site called "Go Jax State" which used to be located at "GoJaxState.com". But man... there are some special, special people on Facebook who are acting like this is some new thing.

If you did anything more than just leave momma and daddy's house, drive to class, then go back home while you attended, then you know Jax State is part of our history. I think a lot of those folks have never been on campus after 5pm or on a weekend day.

Don't know if it would really matter.
