We do have the facilities! IMO it is time for a change. Gotta trust that Greg knows that too and maybe is trying to figure out how to do so correctly... It would help if, RIGHT NOW. baseball & basketball had any NIL money. The schools we are competing against certainly do. It's the cost of moving up in football. Our budget will only stretch so far. I feel sure a plan is in place. Doesn't happen automatically. If anyone wants to actually help, instead of calling for firings and complaining, CUT A CHECK! That's a sure fire fix. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS!!!! YES!!!!

You think Seitz makes these decisions on the 3 major sports? I do not think so. He simply follows the directions of the Board of Trustees. They have to make the call as they did with Grass and football.

Money will always be the issue for Jax St/ really struggle to make it on the D 1 level considering the alumni base. It is why they are playing football games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights this October. Jax St does have close to the athletic funding of a Troy or UAB. Not even remotely close.

Pathetic/ it is beyond time for a change. NIL issues or not. Time for a new era/ and remember- never put someone’s name on a facility until they retire. Bad decision whoever did that.

I'd like to place an addendum on a sentiment expressed by others a few posts earlier:
CUT A CHECK!!! (And in the envelope, include a letter to Greg Seitz, CC'd to the president and BoT, expressing why you feel Coach Case should be encouraged to retire. They won't fire him, but there are other ways.)
All I'm saying is, griping on a fan board is easy, but mostly ineffective, even when you have a point. Expressing those opinions to those in control is marginally more effective.
Expressing those opinions along with a check is far more effective.
And if you can swing a check in the mid-to-high six figures or higher, consider it done.

So one needs to “ cut a check” to get all the people you mentioned to do their jobs? I know a couple of guys on the BOT. I trust them to make the right decision without having to “ buy” their favor. Would like to hear one reason Case should not be forced to retire? It could and should be done with dignity. IMO.

NIL issues or not. Time for a new era/ and remember- never put someone’s name on a facility until they retire. Bad decision whoever did that. I read an article last year about NIL and college baseball that was interesting. According to that article, NIL has barely had any impact on college baseball. With only 11.7 scholarships and 27 players per team, and baseball being dramatically less popular than football and basketball, NIL is mostly minor sponsorship deals with local businesses. It does little more than turn a partial scholarship into a full one. Only 1.1% of NIL money is spent on baseball. Obviously that could change over time, but blaming NIL for four straight losing seasons is a bit much.

It’s also worth mentioning that baseball is a sport where too high school players can and do go pro directly out of high school. The top NIL valuation according to On3 is only $59k for the top player in the land. By the time you get out of the top 20 the value is under $10k. That isn’t the kind of game changing incentive you see in football where injuries are a bigger concern and the NIL amount doesn’t drop below a half million until you get outside of the top 60.

Agree with your more than valid facts. My point is even $10K is better than ZERO. It will/is having an immediate effect on basketball recruiting. Baseball will take a little longer because of a greater number of players available. Plus baseball players are accustomed to partial scholarships. Hopefully the powers that be have a plan for the entire athletic department and not just football. I honestly believe they do. It's called growing pains and definitely a challenge.

I would like to add we are TWO games out of FIRST place in the ASUN with 9 conference games to play. No chance of moving on if we don't make the ASUN tournament. ONLY the top EIGHT teams make the tournament, not 10 like basketball.

Here are the highest budgets for major athletics (football, basketball, baseball) among G5 schools in Alabama according to the Knights Commission:
UAB - $39.8 million Troy - $33.5 million
South Alabama - $33.0 million Jax State - $20.3 million
That is a pretty significant gap between us and the rest. The NIL stuff will be difficult also. UAB, Troy, and South Alabama already have NIL collectives and businesses that are offering NIL deals to a lot of their players. I've only sparingly seen any NIL activity on the JSU end.

Your comparing FCS budget against FBS budgets.

Your comparing FCS budget against FBS budgets. Exactly. I don't disagree at all that JSU needs to raise its funding significantly, but comparing established FBS programs like UAB, troy state, and USA to a program just entering its second year of FCS->FBS transitioning isn't really making any valid points. By the same token, I keep hearing people say (basically) that there's no way we can compete with troy state's level of funding. Why not? They have exactly the same type of graduates we do. No medical school. No law school. Just business majors, music/fine arts majors, CS/CIS majors, and a whole helluva lot of teachers and nurses. I'm not knocking ANY of those, btw... I'm just saying the alumni bases are basically identical. troy state simply has better facilities and a higher athletic budget because they've been FBS for 20 freaking years. It's much easier to convince people and businesses to give when they don't mistake you for a D-II school.
