Then we shouldn't complain about results. We are the problem. I’ve said this before…. Until JSU has degrees that produce high earning professions, we will not see a ton of money from our alumni. Just the way I see it. Bringing back engineering would be a step in the right direction.

I’ve said this in another post… Oil money from Texas and Oklahoma, Nike money in Oregon, Silicone Valley money in California, erc, etc. JSU’s 75,000 or so graduates of which probably 60% are female teachers and another 10% are former Marching Southerners don’t have the desire nor the resources to financially support athletics. We also don't have a Wiley Sanders or multi-million dollar company shelling out money to us. Even though he's dead now (I think?), I know his Wiley Sanders Truck Lines and KW Plastics still shell out a lot of dough to Troy. And now Kimber Firearms HQ has moved to Troy, I believe they starting to become a big supporter. Don't we have some companies or multi-millionaires we can convince to invest in us? Bear & Son Cutlery? (deep cleansing breath) ... Ahem... Before anyone jumps in to "correct" me -- Yes, I *know* about Richard Scrushy and all the other corporate millions which helped troy state out when they made their transition. I ain't talking about that.
I'm talking about real folks. We're not competing against Nike money in Oregon. There are no Oregon teams in CUSA. We're not competing against Silicon Valley money in California. There are no California teams in CUSA. Stop comparing us to high-end P5 teams. We'll never catch up to those guys. We don't have a med school. (Though we do have medical doctors.) We don't have a law school. (Though we do have attorneys.) We don't have any school that reliably churns out year after year of wealthy alumni. (Though we do have wealthy alumni.) My point was that troy state, while they do have their fair share of wealthy alumni, basically has an alumni base which looks much like our own. But once they settled into life as an FBS program, those alumni started acting more like it, and giving a bit more. Jax State, in contrast, has yet to play a single down as an FBS program. There ARE some major companies in northeast Alabama which heretofore have not expressed much interest in sharing their millions with Jax State. But Jax State was not an FBS program making regular appearances on national TV when we were mired in the OVC and ASUN. If YOU were a corporate tycoon, would YOU give tens of millions to ... I dunno ... UTC? UNA? Western Carolina? Probably not. But if the university down the street was hosting well-known FBS programs and even the occasional P5 program, all of a sudden, it makes a bit more financial sense to get your name on something at the stadium. My larger point was this: don't look at our past level of giving as an FCS program and assume that'll be our ceiling as an FBS program. Are we going to turn into Stanford in 5-10 years? No, of course not. But can we compete with the likes of troy state and WKU? Yes. Yes we can.
