Based on the recently released 2023 Southerners Tour Schedule the Southerners will not be attending the South Carolina game. That's a major disappointment. One of the greatest aspect of these big SEC games is seeing our band dominate the "big school bands" and wowing the local crowds. Their schedule is "Open" on that date, so hopefully they can fit this little game in somehow!

This game of all games -- the first-ever Cockfight -- needs to have some Southerners representation.

On another scheduling note: I was shocked how many Saturdays are listed as open for the band. One would think with all those mid-week October games, they would've filled the schedule with tons of exhibitions which wouldn't otherwise have been possible with Saturday football.

Could be the June 2024 trip to France has funds diverted....

Could be the June 2024 trip to France has funds diverted.... True... I keep forgetting that's at the end of this coming academic year. Still seems like it should be a couple years off...

I should probably add that I'm ecstatic MTSU is listed as an away game. I was scared that wouldn't happen, given its midweek status.
Those of you old enough to remember 1998 know why this makes me happy. What a glorious, glorious day.
On that note... I can't believe 1998 was 25 years ago. Kids born during the 1998 MTSU halftime show are like ... 25 now. How did this happen?

Over $600k was raised in less than 6 months for an indoor rehearsal space by a committee organized by the University. All it would take to cover the cost of sending the Southerners to the South Carolina game is for the “powers that be” to give the alumni a dollar amount and a way to give.

Could be the June 2024 trip to France has funds diverted.... This would be a really lame excuse for them to give (not that we will ever get an excuse) considering when we went to London, Hawaii, and Italy we still went to FBS games. Even more so, they're sending the Southerners to Murfreesboro on a Wednesday and Columbia isn't that much further away and on a Saturday. Also when we did Hawaii and Italy (and Id assume London), the members end up paying quite a bit. I think both trips were north of $3k a piece. Those big trips are not 100% university funded. I didn't go on either because I had to choose between Hawaii and Italy or tuition. And I was in Italy last weekend anyway so Id say I made the correct decision.

I would assume football game expenses for the Southerners are paid by the athletic department, but not the side trips to France, Hawaii, exhibitions, etc.. So not sure the France trip would be the reason they're not going to USC.
Onefansopinion might be right, get the university to do a fund raiser to send the band to USC and start collecting. I've got two dollars or so.
There's also the possibility that the USC band is too chicken to see the bigger gamecock band and have denied an invite....

Could the issue be USC will not allow the Southerners to perform?

I heard it would cost $200,000 to take the Southerners to Columbia. Are there 2,000 alumni who would donate $100 for the band to attend?

Perhaps this is the beginning of cutting back on band expenditures. Many many fbs teams cut back on their band to help fund football.
