This was in the Star a few days ago, but it's freely available on Yahoo now. news.yahoo.com/wallace-hall-torn-down-235300599.htmlEarthquakes? I mean, I remember an earthquake in the late 90s/early 2000s which shook my old rickety house pretty good. Even caused some damage, which of course was not covered by insurance since we hadn't had the foresight to get an earthquake rider. But as I said, it was an old, rickety house, and the damage was isolated to the worst of that. But any other quakes while I was up there were barely noticeable. Have there been more recently? Like, in the 2012-2018 time frame? Strong enough to do some actual damage to an academic building?

Reminds me of a he way insurance companies in southern Mississippi categorized hurricane Katrina damage as flood damage when all that was left of houses was the slab.

Glad we can get that behind us. It’s a prime time location for another academic building. It would be also be a great spot for a dorm and help spread out the campus more with plenty of parking.

Good riddance. The building is an eyesore. Make it a parking lot or greenspace.

It is in a great location for a number of uses. But I just can't wrap my mind around the idea that it's damage was caused by earthquakes. I need to know more about this.

There are plenty of things that should at least result in partial payment.

Department renamed
JSU trustee and longtime supporter of the institution was honored Monday with the naming of the Department of Finance, Economics and Accounting, the Greg D. Brown Department of Finance, Economics and Accounting.
The news produced a standing ovation from fellow board members as well as staff members present at the meeting.
"I am totally speechless. I have no words to express my humility. I don't understand how I could ever deserve or acquire this type of thing," Brown told the board after the announcement was made.
Chairman Randy Jones thanked the board and everyone involved in getting the department named, as well as Brown for everything he had done for the university.
Brown graduated from JSU in 1979 with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Accounting and later went on to the Birmingham School of Law where he passed the Alabama State Bar in 1990. Brown currently serves as founding chair of the Audit Committee for the JSU Board of Trustees "strengthening its fiscal accountability," the naming resolution stated.
Thought this was interesting. There are good things going on.

Greg is a great man but why do we name things after folks without money changing hands? Not directing this at any one person but JSU does this all of the time. Dont give your assets away for free. Hopefully a donation was made and it was silent.

Hopefully a donation was made and it was silent. Naming a department after a person should be reserved as an honor and not a purchase. Should we have charged bill Burgess or Rudy Abbott? That would be more of a slap in the face than recognizing contributions a person has made With that said I know nothing about Mr. Brown whether he deserves an honor such as this I do not know. It sounds he didn't feel so.

Hopefully a donation was made and it was silent. By choice it's not public knowledge what all Mr. Brown has done and continues to do for JSU, in many different ways. But believe me, he does not operate expecting recognition in any way what so ever. I'll leave it there.
