For those of you who aren't connected with Dr. Bodiford on social media, the Southerners will begin band camp next week. The new kids arrive on July 30, and the full band rolls in a day later on the 31st.
I'm not sure of the exact current count (it's subject to fluctuate anyway) but the band has over 550 students registered, including hornline, percussion, Ballerinas, and color guard. They're getting perilously close to having 40 20-Js on the field. (Not quite there yet... They have around 36-38 functional horns, which in itself is amazing.)
The plan is to march around "500ish" on the field, with the remainder playing in the stands or working as equipment managers, etc.
The 2023 show is titled "Reflection" and features some of the favorites the band has played in the 30 years of the Bodiford era, as voted on by students, fans, and alumni, including Firebird, Fly to Paradise, I'll Fly Away, Over the Rainbow, and Malagueña.

Will be my brother's first year with the Southerners. He's going to miss the experience of band camp on in the Coliseum parking lot.
Actually, now that I think about it, I think the new site is worse anyway.
Either way I'm sure he'll have fun.

Manifold was music to my ears…
