Jimmy passed away today at the age of 76. I remember an epic night in 1984 where me a some friends put on our best Hawaiian shirts, borrowed a car from a girl I was seeing, and took off for Birmingham to see Jimmy at Boutwell auditorium. I also remember the night that The Beach Boys played at the Pete. The Coral Reefer Band was playing the same night at Brothers. I went to both. Jimmy turned out to be a better businessman than musician. Forbes estimated his net worth at a Billion dollars. By Jimmy's own admission he was not a great singer and only a so so guitar player, but he did have a real talent for writing. Some of his songs could absolutely transport into the lives of the folks he was singing about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKGw_hrlaOYThis morning, AL.com has a nice article about his sports fandom. Nice to read about another side of him. www.al.com/news/2023/09/goodman-a-tribute-to-jimmy-buffett-legendary-sports-fan.htmlFor a good ol boy from Mobile, he did all right. When asked how he would like to be remembered he once said, "someone that had a good time and made some people happy". I would say he succeeded.

Also, just found out that Jimmy played at the Pete in 1975 as the opener for Linda Ronstadt. Did anyone here go to that show?

Before my time, but man I would have loved that one Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice. However, In the 90s there was a questionnaire passed around amongst students as to who to get for a concert He won in a landslide but was passed over in favor of Silk.
