I hope we start recruiting bigger players on the lines Look at this past year's recruiting class. We are. The issue is, an OL signee (except in rare cases) doesn't make an impact on the line until he gets grown man strength, and that's normally his third or even fourth year in the program. This is why 5th year senior linemen are such a prized commodity. Rare case examples: redshirt freshman Xavier Bausley and true freshman Daveion Harley. Both are heavy contributors for the Gamecocks this fall, despite being wee lil babies. Do we have any ol or dl commits for next season yet?

In todays portal circus, why sign anyone? Just get who you want from the portal.

We didn't know about half the guys we got last year until near the last minute. And even then, some of our highest impact (non-portal) signees were completely ignored by the recruiting services. Rich Rod's staff (especially Rick Trickett and William Green) are masters of finding diamonds in the rough. I'm sure we'll probably pick up a few more multi-star recruits (and impact transfers) after the year we're having, but I think Trickett and Green both trust their own instincts more than they trust the "gurus" over at Rivals, On3, and 247. The thing I've learned in Rich Rod's two years here: don't hit the panic button when we're not leading the conference in recruiting rankings. They get the guys they want, and they win with them.
