Only for FCS playoff games.
Yeah, I was surprised to see that the NCAA does not require its name on the field. If they don't require it, we shouldn't give it to them.
As for the field design itself...
I think we're reaching a consensus on the logos: 80s profile bird (as large as possible) at midfield; AKC in place of the NCAA logos on the 25s. Not everyone is in 100% agreement, mind you... but the consensus seems to be there.
But the end zones are still wide open for debate, both for the colors and for the verbiage.
I prefer the bi-color
JAXSTATE in both end zones (red JAX, white STATE, against a black background) strictly from a branding/marketing perspective:
1) The red and white lettering against the black really pops. Add a white outline around the red letters and a red outline around the white letters, and it pops even more. It's just my opinion, but it seems to me to reinforce our Red/White color scheme more than a simple Red and White end zone (sans black) would.
2) Squashing the two words together and using colors to separate JAX and STATE allows the lettering to be larger and more readable. The space you'd need to make two separate words takes up a surprising amount of room.
3) The consensus field design has bird logos in three separate locations on the field, so "GAMECOCKS" in the end zones doesn't add much if anything to establish our mascot. But if you have "JAX STATE" in both end zones, then no matter where a score (or a goal-line stand) happens, the broadcast will pick up the name of the school. And beyond the game itself, if we get a "Play of the Day" on SportsCenter, the school name would get tons of free coverage.
When I have a bit more time, I'll post mockups of the end zones with different color and verbiage combos, along with a poll. It may not be today, but possibly tomorrow.
If anyone else has any ideas to throw in, let me know. I've got all these possibilities saved as layers in a Photoshop doc, so I can swap most stuff out pretty easily.
Oh... one question for everybody:
Specifically for the AKC on the 25s (replacing the NCAA logos)... do you guys prefer the two-color red-and-white bird that was on the WKU helmets, or the four-color bird with a red-and-white bird with yellow beaks and feet, outlined in black?
