We are looking at expanding into hosting a news page. This brings up the question... how big of a role does the Chanticleer hold in tour consumption of Jax State information?

If put in front of me more often, I would definitely read more. I do not seek the Chanticleer for news at this time.

For me, it's a year-to-year thing, entirely dependent on the current staff.
I almost never read the news/opinion sections of the Chanty, even in the best of times, because they just don't interest me much unless there's some horrific breaking story. Most of the more common day-to-day news is just informing students about things I already knew about.
Ditto the entertainment/lifestyle-oriented sections. Those are geared toward students (as they should be) and just hold no interest for an old man such as myself.
But sports? Every now and then, you'll get a sports editor (and/or staffer) who knows what they're doing, and when that happens, I hit it up pretty regularly.
The current staff is on the "good" side of that cycle. Young writers, to be sure -- a recent story was incredibly over-written to the point of provoking such tears in the ducts as to leave glistening trails of ephemeral moisture on the face -- but apart from that, it's solid content. Not too far removed from what the Star and Gadsden Times are doing, only without the paywall.
(In fairness, The Star has moved several recent Gamecock stories to their "free" non/paywall side, at least in the first few days after a game, which shows someone there still has at least one or two functioning brain cells. But enough about them.)
When the Chanticleer is bad -- which does happen from time to time, since we're dealing with an ever-changing student body -- it's nigh unreadable. I don't blame the staff or faculty sponsors when that happens, since I understand the dynamics of it. You can have 6-7 solid, skilled staff members, and then that ONE GUY who doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground. One bad apple spoils the bunch, especially if he's the guy covering the story you were actually interested in reading...

If you haven't voted in this poll, please do. It matters.

It looks like the answer is rarely to never. I never even see the chanticleer. Is it available to read online?

Just hardly ever think about it. I follow them on X but never really see stuff from them. I think they should post their links on every story in our forum. Heh!

While an undergraduate, I read it each week (paper copy). I usually read it during class.
We affectionately referred to it as “this-shit-ain’t-clear.”
