Just for fun!
When could it be possible that we host a P5 game? I know it's probably a few years away if it's possible at all
Most importantly, who could it be against?

It would be someone towards the bottom of a P5 conference and it might be a 2-for-1 deal but it could happen. As for when, it’s as soon as someone agrees to it.

It's going to take a complete renovation of the stadium because no one is going to want to come play in this under construction dump. The teams that generally were getting P5 teams are mostly P5 now. ACC does it far more often than other teams. I could see us getting Wake Forest, SMU, NC State, etc.

So not too far out. Maybe we can arrange something in 25-26. But with realignment upcoming and an unsure future for so many, it maybe hard to do.

We do need to wait til the stadium renovation is complete, not because P5s wouldn't want to come to "a dump" -- c'mon man -- but because without the renovations being complete, our capacity is limited, and we need to have the full capacity available for any P5-caliber opponent.
But yes, P5s play at G5s on a semi-regular basis.
It's not your Alabamas and UGAs that do it, mind you. No Tennessee. No Auburn. No Florida or Florida State. Not gonna happen.
But schools on the low-to-mid-tier in P5 do it pretty often. It's usually part of a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal. For example, we'd play two games at Mississippi State, and the third year of the contract, the Bulldogs would come to Jacksonville. Schools we could realistically get would include Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, UCF, Vandy, NC State, Wake, etc.

We are close to being able to bring a team in that will sell us out, and they definitely would.

nothing in the future looks like big $$$ games. Troy and South Alabama have some big payout games in the next 5 years. If I was JSU I would look to go play Clemson, LSU or UT or Miss State for $2M. As long as it was a bus trip away the staff athletic department cound make some revenue.

Clemson would be a good one - probably depends on what we do with South Carolina. If we beat them, it's doubtful they would want any. Any SEC or ACC school would be good.

It just occurred to me I should probably add this slightly important caveat:
With next year's formation of the P2 (Big Ten and SEC) there are no guarantees when it comes to landing any of those teams (even the Vandys of the world) in a home-and-home. We might be lucky just to get SEC schools as guarantee games.
It all depends on the SEC's scheduling format, and any backroom decisions they make regarding who is and is not acceptable as nonconference foes.
So anything that's happened in the past can be taken with a grain of salt. There are no guarantees moving forward.

The good thing is that when opponents come here they are not stuck in the side of the endzone. The visitors currently get decent seats. If we continue to do that it it attractive for them to come.
