This is what they mean by FBS depth. Next man up. Injuries are part of the game, and you have to be able to survive a long season. And it's the key difference between low-tier SEC teams (like USC) vs average G5 programs. A team like Bama or UGA will have 4- and 5-star players riding the bench waiting for their chance to play. A team like Mississippi State or South Carolina will still have the occasional 5-star starter, but their bench is filled with 3-star guys, all up and down the two-deep. Jax State is building up to a G5-level roster. We've got an awful lot of 3-star guys on the roster (and even some 4- and 5-star transfers) but much of our bench is made up of sub-3-star players. Now, some of these guys have all the talent in the world, and just went under the radar. And some positions (notably RB) are much deeper than others. But at the end of the day, at some point there's a talent drop-off when we go to the bench. Injuries magnify that. And while we can overcome it against many programs, for others, doing so will require a strong dose of good luck. The Lessers are firmly in that latter group. Found this on a USC fan forum - "I do think this is a game that will show just how bad things are. We handled Furman pretty well, but they are FCS. Jax is a quality G5 program, though. If we can win comfortably, I think that offers some assurance that our problems are correctable. If we struggle or, heaven forbid, if they win, that will be quite an indictment on the state of the program"

Furman scored 21 points on USC with only 80 yds rushing. Surely we can score that many as well? Or will USC no longer be sleep walking and be ready for this game?

We handled Furman pretty well, but they are FCS. Jax is a quality G5 program, though. This has nothing to do with your questions or your overall point, pubdaze ... I just wanted to draw attention to these magical words, quoted from a random SEC fan. Such a contrast from some of the things being said about us immediately after our bid to CUSA was extended. Here's hoping we live up to that billing.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle the Hot Rod offense.

We watched the team getting off the buses in front of the stadium. They had an Alabama State Trooper contingent escort the buses.
