Looks like an awesome change. Made $1m from San Jose. Will add Louisville at a bigger paycheck and we reduce travel expenses.

San Jose paid us a million dollars? That’s a lot for a G5 to pay someone. The article about the Louisville game said they are paying $1,000,000. I never saw a number about San Jose.
Louisville is a six hour drive from Jacksonville.

I would assume there's a cancelation clause in those contracts.

I would assume there's a cancelation clause in those contracts. I'm sure there is a buyout. But I don't think they were paying us very much in the first place. I'd guess around 200-300k?

Louisville paying $1M seems light. USC paid $1.3M and the contract was on the books longer. They were suppose to play Liberty for 1.5M
I cannot find our contracts but Texas AM paid App state 1.5M Notre Dame paid Marshall 1.25m Nebraska paid Georgia Southern 1.4M
$1.25M - 1.75M seems the going rate

Your comment that $1m seems light is understandable. When SJSU and JSU got a deal it would be considered late in the process. So both sides needed the game. Then SJSU had an opportunity to play a regional school in Stanford. (Stanford moved from a 9 conference game PAC to an 8 conference game ACC.) A rough guess is that SJSU was going to pay JSU around $500,000. But the buyout was around $200,000. So the complete deal will net JSU around $1.2 million which is around the going rate. Plus it is in driving distance. A win-win for everybody. Keep in mind that the Louisville game is on the same date as the SJSU game was going to be. Louisville preferred that date and so would JSU. As a result, Louisville is probably happy only paying $1m to JSU. Hopefully there is some good will there and the 2 schools schedule another game in the next 6 years or so. fbschedules.com/indiana-louisville-canceling-final-two-games-of-three-game-football-series/

Louisville is also more of a basketball school (though not showing it lately) so they might not write quite as big checks for football buy games.

Jax state should have never taken a west coast game for $500k. Where the profit? I'm thinking 3 day trip needed into one of the most expensive markets.
Jax State needs a big payday game per year at $1.25 M (Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, West Vig, Cincinatti)

You also have to have the dates match up. One of the disadvantages of being a new FBS school. Fly out the day before the game and then back after the game. One night in a hotel.

I know JSU didn't win but JSU in the first season beat WKU, MTSU, UTEP, EMU and hung with Coastal.

Also, one of the disadvantages of having to put together a schedule from scratch in the middle of the Realignment Apocalypse. Even schools with dates that matched were like, "We can't commit to any games at this time. We may be in a new conference this time tomorrow afternoon, and don't know if we'll have an 8-game or a 9-game conference schedule." Besides, most FBS nonconference games are scheduled years in advance, and we were having to grab the crumbs that were left (or were created by the Apocalypse). Greg did a marvelous job, even if he is still a Yankees fan.
