I'm hearing the same thing. Just booked my room. This is a nice reward for the team. Get to play in one of the great venues and great bowl cities in the country. Should be really special for them. Also against a team that we should be very competitive against.

Wonder how Cignetti leaving might affect our bowl selection.

I’ll wait until the official announcement before getting a room.
New Orleans is about six hours from Jacksonville so it’s not a bad drive. The game is on December 16, which is good because Mrs. sux’s family is having their Christmas gathering on the 23rd so that avoids that conflict.
The game is in the Superdome. I’d prefer a smaller venue for our bowl game as I doubt we sell it out. But being indoors means we don’t have to deal with the weather. Hearing the Southerners indoors will be an experience as well.
As previously stated, I’m not a fan of the city of New Orleans. (I do like the Arlo Guthrie song) but I can stay in Slidel and not deal with it at all. Game starts at 1:15 so that’s a plus.
Playing a local team probably gives them the crowd advantage. But they were in this game two years ago and it drew 21,000. They were also in it five times in six years from 2011-16. So maybe they are sick of going and there won’t be a lot of Rajin Cajuns there. I know I’d be tired of going there. Last year they were in Shreveport. Must suck to be them in the postseason.
They went 6-6 this year and 3-5 in the Sun Belt. No common opponents but they did beat UAB 41-21 early in the season. They lost three straight late before beating Monroe in the last game to qualify for a bowl.
They used to be called Louisiana-Lafayette before they got the big head and dropped the Lafayette a few years ago. Billy Napier, now at Florida, was the coach 2018-21. The new guy is 13-13, including a bowl win with Napier’s last team in 2021. Slightly better than Napier’s 11-14 record at Florida.

Drive Times* to the Superdome:
from Mobile: 2 hours from Montgomery: 4.5 hours from Birmingham: 5 hours from Jacksonville: 6 hours from Newnan, GA (SW ATL Metro): 6 hours from Huntsville: 6.5 hours from Marietta, GA (NW ATL Metro): 7 hours from Chattanooga, TN: 7 hours from Covington, GA (SE ATL Metro): 7.5 hours from Lawrenceville, GA (NE ATL Metro): 7.5 hours
* Times are straight off Google and rounded to nearest half hour. Your actual drive time may vary.

I don’t think the Southerners will be at the game. Is that correct? Asking for a friend.

Today I saw a prediction that "pitted the two shouldn't be in bowl game schools against each other"... Jax St vs. James Madison in the Camellia Bowl

Just checked and a ticket on Amtrak from Birmingham to New Orleans is $49. I did that based on leaving the 15th and returning on the 17th. But then you have the expense of getting around once you are there. So I don’t see a huge savings.
I checked and tickets to the game on the bowl website are $60.
Of course, we might not even be going there. But the almighty Brett McMurphy has declared it so it must be so.

Interesting fact. The Sunbelt office is located right outside of the Superdome, so Gem should have somewhere to go to the restroom.

I’ll stay outside the city, drive in for the game and drive home after we win.

I don’t think the Southerners will be at the game. Is that correct? Asking for a friend. FC They're going to bring as many as possible. It's unlikely (but possible) they'll have enough to march their field show, but they will absolutely be a force in the stands. That's what matters for football, anyway. Regarding the field show... I mentioned this a week or two ago, but based on some comments to that post, I don't think I made the issue clear. Back in August, the band was told JSU would NOT be eligible for a bowl game. Only the rosiest of fan predictions even had us reaching 7-wins this season, and even then, the consensus was that .500 would be an outstanding first season in FBS. Most journalists had us in the 2-4 win range. Because it looked like bowls wouldn't be a thing until 2024, the Southerners members were told their last obligation of the season would be the Jacksonville Christmas Parade. (That was last night.) The students all looked at their Finals schedule, and booked plane tickets back home (for the many Southerners from outside the South) or committed to Christmas jobs back home. (Basically, what any other student would do heading into Christmas break.) Once bowl eligibility was confirmed, students had to see what they could do to change their Christmas break plans. In *some* cases, students were able to change their flights or make arrangements with employers, etc. Those students will now be available. Other students were going to be ready, willing, and able all along. But for a certain number -- not sure of the exact percentage -- it's simply not possible. They WANT to be there. I mean, who wouldn't want a free trip to New Orleans, other than people who've been there and swore never to go back? And the game is historic. This is Jax State's first-ever bowl game, in their first-ever season playing at the FBS level. But if you can't get out of your flight, or your employer isn't willing to work with you on your schedule at the height of the Christmas sales season, there's just not a lot you can do. But there are 526 Southerners, and even if only 20% of them showed up at the bowl game (it'll be more than that, but go with me here) those 100 Southerners would be the loudest, rowdiest band that bowl game has ever seen. You can count on that.
