The CUSA Championship game is tonight.
JSU wants Liberty to win.
If they do and then on Saturday Tulane loses, Liberty will almost assuredly be the highest ranked G-5 school. That means they will play in a News Years 6 (NY6) game. This is important to JSU in two ways: 1. A NY6 game comes with a LARGE payout, much of which is split among the CUSA teams. 2. It potentially opens up a better Bowl game for JSU.
Go Liberty….

Also, the NMSU loss wouldn’t hurt JSU’s bowl prospects. They may jump from the third CUSA slot to the first if Liberty wins and goes to a NY6 Bowl.

End of the 3rd Quarter. Liberty 35 New Mexico State 35
This could come down to who has the ball last.

I’m not sure how you determine whether that was a catch or an interception. Even looking at replay it looks like both.

What a game!
Thoughts:
Neither of these teams want to play defense tonight. Shoutout to our defense for holding both of them to fewer points than they scored tonight.
NM State's 3rd string QB might be better than the starter, and they have a really good starter.

So if Liberty goes to the NY6 bowl, does that change the equation for JSU to NO?

Liberty's QB had one of the best QB runs for touchdown in recent years.

So if Liberty goes to the NY6 bowl, does that change the equation for JSU to NO? It changes everything for CUSA bowls.

So if Liberty goes to the NY6 bowl, does that change the equation for JSU to NO? It changes everything for CUSA bowls. As it is, it didn't change much, at least for this season. But NEXT season... if Liberty at least performs competitively (or better yet, wins) against Oregon, and JSU, NMSU, and WKU all win our respective bowls, CUSA will no longer be reviled as the "worst" G5 league. We may not be held up as a beacon of strength (we'll still have Kennesaw adding to a weak bottom half next season) but the upper teams will at least get more credit. This season was ridiculous, with our top teams all being ranked far, far too poorly in the preseason polls. At least we can hope for a handful of teams with solid preseason power rankings, which (if they continue winning) will open the door to better bowls and additional CFP appearances in the future. BTW... this was brought up elsewhere, but the "bottom half of CUSA sucks, therefore the whole league sucks" argument doesn't hold water. Just look at the American this season.

It's a huge win for us and the rest of the CUSA especially when recruiting against other G5 conference schools. Come here, help us win, and you can play in the playoff just like everyone else.
