The Magnolias would make an excellent replacement for the Alumni House.
All I ask is that they bring in an arborist to clean up those overgrown magnolia trees. You HAVE to keep them -- I mean, it's in the name -- but they don't have to be so wild that they hide the entire house.

What I have heard is Magnolia's would be the president's house and the current president's house would be new alumni house and or welcome center.

From reading the local Facebook page, it seems the purchase ticked a bunch of people off.
Therefore, I approve of the purchase.

They complain about the growth of JSU as they patronize and enjoy all the businesses and amenities having a university nearby brings.

I don't see that happening unless the structure was unsalvageable, but then you don't pay almost a million just for that lot right? Who knows. It's not like I'm in the loop.

If someone wants to save the building, they should have purchased the building. If you own it do what you want with your belongings. Its not my right to tell you what to do with your stuff.

First and foremost: Good ole JSU is not a person with rights. It is a public/state institution governed by the citizens of the state of Alabama. I as a said taxpayer have the right to object while in truth we did purchase the property. As a piece of history it should stand as a reminder of how things were, as a mile post that will help to guide us in future paths. If you destroy your past you destroy your future.

It’s always gonna tick off a bunch of good ole boy town that’s home to 14k people. Get over it. If they wanted it, they should have bought it, can’t even tell there’s a house back there and I am sure majority of them never stepped foot on the property.

These are same people who are against JSU being in Jacksonville. There wouldn’t be a Jacksonville if it wasn’t for JSU. Move along and enjoy your 10% sales tax on everything

Isn't it also possible that Jacksonville would be in a better position were it not for the 100 plus year presence of JSU and the person's it brought to town. The road not taken.

I would LOVE to buy the Magnolias, or for that matter any of the other historic homes in Jacksonville, but unfortunately I don't have a cool mil laying around for the purchase or for probably needed renovations/repairs/restorations. I'm glad the university purchased it & hope they treat it well & use it as a show piece as the new Alumni or Presidents home or something else I haven't considered. The city has lost several historic homes & I hate the (in my opinion) shortsightedness of that. I have been to this property & it deserves preservation. Of course, this all may stem from my first major at JSU, in History. 😉
