Let's see it's our home game right? Listening to the announcers I could have sworn we were playing in Chicago. They were stepping all over each other talking about how good UIC is. Question: When did being behind by 7 points constitute a big deficit? This is the age of the 3 pointer, 7 points is nothing. Maybe in Conference USA on ESPN+ someone else supplies the announcers? Where ever they came from, we need to send them back.
Thoughts?

I assure you you can't count on a three pointer. They and we were very defensive. There was one ref who appears very biased. Made a lot of one sided foul calls. Even fist bumped the opposing players. Fortunately the other two seemed more even handed. Offensively we made a lot of mistakes and didn't seem very consistent except that we can't hit a three pointer. It will be a long season unless this changes.

49 points at home is ridiculous. Already have 3 losses at home. Yep/ gonna be an ugly season I am afraid.
A 7 point lead is very safe when you shoot 21% in the first half and 1-11 from 3. Helen Keller could do better.

Sadly it appears we don't have a three point shooter again this year so my three pointer comment (posted at half time) is suspect however, 7 points is not a big deficit. The announcers were talking like it was over early in the first half.
This is the first time I saw us play this year. Clearly it wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as I imagined. KyKy didn't play much because of foul trouble. If he can fix that I think he will be a big help. There are many things that need work but I think Coach Harper has some players to work with. There are some freshman with potential on that team.
Referees, don't get me started! It did look like it depended on who's end of the court they were on when it came to fouls. The announcers kept saying, well they are letting them play. Here I'm speaking about all games not just this one. I contend it's "letting them play" that causes the problem. Once you let fouls go in order to "let them play" you create ambiguity about what's OK or not. You should call everything from the beginning, you set the standard early, then you won't have as much to call and can be more even handed. Once you start letting things go how do you decide what to call and what not to call? Refs are human, I expect mistakes but now a days it appears if you didn't draw blood or break something, play on.

I have attended several games, including last night’s. Several patterns seem to have emerged to this point.
- We play with pretty consistent effort on the defensive end. This makes the games watchable and gives us hope that things might improve. - Our “Bigs” are making steady improvement. This has been a pleasant suprise. - Three point shooting is inconsistent at best. - At some point in most games we put ourselves at a large deficit, we dig in and make a comeback, but it falls just short at the end. 4 of our 6 losses have been by 3 points or less. Last nights 6 point loss was a 2 point game with less than a minute to go.
The team is a work in progress, probably more so than at any time in recent years. We might end the season as the 4th seed in the conference tournament or we might end up dead last.
Go Jax State!!!

1. We can't hit 3-pointers. Don't look for them to fall. The past few years we were spoiled with excellent shooters, but the were small. We now have more size to compete in CUSA.
2. We are a very young team! I think there are only 2 seniors. Young teams have to learn to win close games. We will get there, probably, slowly but give it time.

Heading into this season, due to our youth and overall inexperience, I fully expected JSU to get blown out more often than not. I figured we'd kind of embarrass ourselves during the nonconference schedule and spend all January and February on our "apology tour" for hurting CUSA's strength of schedule. By the end of the season, I hoped we'd at least start to become competitive. If the Portal was kind to us during the postseason, we'd be pretty good by fall 2024. Instead, we've won a few games and most of our losses have been VERY close. This means we're ahead of schedule by about a season. Don't misunderstand me -- I'm not saying we're NCAA bound this March. We've got a tough row to hoe. But as these young guys come together and learn to play as a team, we're going to become more and more dangerous. If we fail to become a "contender" by the end of the season, we should at least be able to serve notice that we're not an easy out. No apology tour necessary.
